Chapter 12 – New beginnings

Kalyani was on an emotional roller coaster that day, she had experienced things that she had never felt before. It was all a little too much for her to handle at once. Thus, the emotional duress took a toll on her physical health causing her to collapse. Everyone was so fixated on Kalyani that they had failed to notice that there was a stranger at their doorstep. As everyone screamed in concern for Kalyani’s wellbeing and rushed to her aid, a man ran past Malhar and took Kalyani in his arms.

The handsome man immediately took charge of the entire situation and instructed a stunned Malhar who was standing by him, to fetch the medical kit from his car while handing him his keys. He then looked at Anupriya and requested her to direct him to Kalyani’s room. Everyone was still in a state of shock and trying to process what had just transpired before their eyes, they didn’t know how to react or understood what had happened to Kalyani or who this man Kalyani was with but there was a sense of authority and calmness in his stride which unknowingly eased their worry. Malhar immediately rushed to the man’s car not wanting to waste any time while Anupriya and Sarthak lead the man to Kalyani and Malhar’s bedroom.

At Kalyani & Malhar’s bedroom:

The man laid Kalyani down on her bed and covered her with a blanket just in time for Malhar to return with the medical bag while the rest of the family gathered around the bed in dismay. The man took his bag off of Malhar’s hand and sat beside Kalyani to check her vitals. He took a reading of Kalyani’s blood pressure and accordingly injected an appropriate dosage of the medicine to stabilize her condition and along with it he gave her a mild sedative so that she could rest through the night. Once he was done taking care of her, he looked onto her worried family and requested everyone to step out with him, sensing the tension in the air. When no one moved a muscle, he suggested that it was in Kalyani’s best interest to let her sleep peacefully while they discussed her condition further. Upon hearing this, they all left the room with him.

Once they were outside her room, he reassured them that there was nothing to worry about Kalyani and that she had fainted due to a low blood pressure. He explained that he had already administered the medication that would help her return to normalcy by the next morning. He also apologized to everyone for being commanding earlier and then introduced himself as Dr. Virat Raiker, the one with whom Kalyani had been staying all these days. He indicated that he was indeed the one who had rescued her from the wreckage that fateful night and had taken her in for a treatment at his hospital. A sense of relief took over Malhar, Anupriya and Sarthak who were glad that Kalyani had been in safe hands all these days and that she wasn’t a victim to any crime as they had previously anticipated. But they still had a million questions running through their mind. Malhar instantaneously shook Virat’s hand and thanked him for saving Kalyani while Anupriya and Sarthak reciprocated the same.

Anupriya also noticed that this entire scene had horrified little Moksh who was now tightly gripping her hand. She acknowledged his feelings and knelt down to reassure him that his mother was going to be alright. She told him that Kalyani was only sleeping so that she could gather the energy to play with him the next day. She indicated Sarthak to put Moksh to bed so that he doesn’t get agitated anymore. Moksh unwillingly left with Sarthak not wanting to trouble his mother and the rest of the family headed out to the living room.

At the living room:

Anupriya introduced herself as Kalyani’s mother to Virat and began asking him how he had found her and why he hadn’t reached out to them earlier. Malhar too joined in on the conversation wanting some clarity on what had happened that night. Sarthak had successfully put Moksh to bed and returned to the living room wanting some answers. Aaosaheb and Avni were also present there to feed their inquisitiveness. Virat genuinely understood their concern and calmly began revealing the events that had unfolded that fateful night.

Flashback begins

That night a couple of hours after Avni had taken Malhar from the accident site, Virat would have driven past the wreckage. He would have immediately stopped to help anyone who was trapped in the car. Upon nearing the car, he would have noticed a heavily wounded and unconscious Kalyani at the wheel. She would have lost a lot of blood and incurred a severe head trauma. Being a neurologist himself, he would have known that the time was of the essence if he wanted to save her but since they were on the Aurangabad-Mumbai state highway, he didn’t know if she was from Mumbai or Aurangabad. So he would have made a judgement call and taken her to his home city Mumbai where he would have treated her at his hospital and admitted her there for monitoring.

Upon regaining her consciousness, it would have been evident that Kalyani was experiencing retrograde amnesia as a result of which she wouldn’t have even remembered her own identity or that of her family’s. Virat being the good man that he is, would have lodged a missing person’s case in Mumbai for Kalyani so that her family could locate her and then would have taken her to his place after being discharged from the hospital. Kalyani would have spent the next 30 days at his house, recovering from her trauma.

Flashback ends

Lastly, Virat mentioned that it was only yesterday that Kalyani had begun remembering her identity and her past and that was the reason why he had brought her to Ahilya Niwas. As Virat finished recounting all the details, he noticed how it had devastated Kalyani’s family. Malhar was ridden in guilt and shame. Anupriya was sobbing profusely imagining all the pain that her daughter had had to endure all these days. All the anger towards Malhar and Avni that had built up and was dormant in Anupriya were now about resurface. She couldn’t believe that because of his deeds and that of his family’s, Kalyani had been to hell and back.

Character Introduction:

Dr. Virat Raiker

A handsome young man, practising medicine in Mumbai. His parents are doctors too and live in Delhi. They own hospitals in Delhi and Mumbai. Virat is a kind, charismatic, funny, witty guy and is only a couple of years older than Kalyani. The last month that Kalyani and Virat have spent with each other has cemented their friendship. He genuinely is a good guy and Kalyani trusts him completely.
