Of course, Ulfat is arguably the kind of a character who deserves to be cancelled; no amount of measured conversation would make a difference. But the problem is that most of the people who are cancelling her sympathize with Shafaq deep down which makes me cringe. How’s Shafaq any different? She got what she wanted by manoeuvring a wife into selling her husband. Ulfat did wrong but the difference here is that Ulfat is jahil. But Shafaq tu educated thi. To Ulfat wealth seemed like an unmitigated good. She thought money is gonna give her all sorts of advantages, like greater freedom, control over her life, nicer things, respect from her friends and peers. And also, more love from Shahaan. She was mistaken. Whatever she did she did out of illiteracy and lack of good sense. Aesay logon pay mujhe ghussay say zaada tars aata hai. In contrast, Shafaq is clever and cunning. She is a toxic character who cares mostly about herself. She didn’t think about how her actions would affect Shahaan’s family and especially his child. There’s Ulfat who just can’t seem to see the good in life. She will find something bad about everything and isn’t able to find joy in anything. And then there’s Shafaq who’s so manipulative she’d act like she is smarter than you to make you feel insignificant. Both the wives have the power to suck the joy and happiness from within you and replace it with stress and anger. So in my opinion, it is wise that Shahaan opts for single parenting or dies in peace. But if they really want him to have a wife I’d be much happier if Shafaq leaves. Greediness is bad, no doubt, but so is kisi aur ki greediness ka fayida uthana. Shafaq didn’t get Shahaan because Ulfat was greedy, she got him by exploiting her. A homewrecker doesn’t deserve a second chance. Shahaan may have one reason to stay with Shafaq but he has multiple reasons to go back to Ulfat. He is deliriously in love with her. The whole falling in love with Shafaq thing was ridiculous and out of character. So if they really show him happy with Shafaq at the end it would be a writing flaw. I’d rather have Ulfat change and conduct herself differently and Shahaan forgiving her. That’s more realistic.
