Firstly, it was a botched plagiarism of Humsafar (Pakistan series, adaptation of novel by Farhat Ishtiaq).

In Humsafar - The extremely timid wife is berated & thrown out of the house. Yet she tries hard to defend herself & inform her husband of her pregnancy. Goes back to her maternal home after being evicted. Genuinely tries to talk to her husband over the phone when she's in labour. Comes back because she can't afford the child's heart surgery. Also, the husband's adultery doubts are addressed & sorted after the leap.

The execution in YRKKH was super botched.

Kartik - He was doing fine till the story dealt with his hurt male ego. Feeling emasculated after getting beat up by goons + not being able to support his father in business + Dadi talking trash about Naira's budding career to him. But questioning Naira's loyalty because of an outsider? He was going through a weak phase but it just revealed his character.

Naira - WHO TF RUNS AWAY & FAKES HER DEATH BECAUSE HER HUSBAND DISRESPECTED HER?! Someone who feels hiding away is the solution to everything. At least that's character consistency. Some Sherni, she is.

Kairav - Naira has fatal, memory erasing blood clots. She could have miscarried or lost her memory at any time. Kairav could have literally died or been misplaced in such a situation. She had a 17(?) hour long labour. But didn't tell anyone what to do with Kairav if something happens to her. Also, the child of Goenka's & Singhania's suffered in poverty for 5 years (in addition to constantly being worried about his depressed mother)

Singhania's - They didn't even do anything to deserve that! Two old grandma's & a brother who's always cleaning up after Naira. They had to move away from Udaipur to escape the sadness. One slap from Bhabhi Ma & that's the most that their suffering is addressed. But even after Naira abandoning them for a 3rd time due to her personal misunderstandings, they continue to support her. (Naksh was also separated from Krish & Keerti because of this)

Custody battle - A hot pile of trash, it was. A second divorce! Naira refusing to let Kartik be a part of Kairav's life. Bringing up health-driven abortion only to cast a negative light on it. They made some progress with Kartik demanding only shared rights & questioning society's negligence of fathers. But abandoned all that in favour of the regressive 'Maa ka haq'.

Thank you for making a post about this. No sensible viewer would be able to get over this. There have been many shows where the female lead is presumed to be dead but is actually living separately and then a leap takes place. But other than YRKKH, most other shows have at least somewhat digestable explanation of why the female lead left and why her families (maternal and in-laws) think she is dead. But YRKKH did a horrendous job at it.

This is the same show that had leaps where when Naitik fell into a four year coma, Akshara stepped up and took responsibility of the house, the business and their young son all alone. Then when Akshara was wrongly accused of Daddaji's death and thrown out of the house, Naitik stood by her as a rock and left with her and their kids to a new country. These are the kinds of leaps that make us feel proud of following an on-screen couple. Those that show partners being unwavering pillars of support.

This show has gone to the dumps because of Kaira. Honestly, Akshara and Naitik* watching from heaven would be so disappointed in their daughter.

*I'm just assuming that Naitik is dead now. He's been gone forever. Lol, his son and daughter had a baby, his daughter lost a baby and almost lost her memory, then his daughter died and came back alive five years later with a son. There is no way he wouldn't be around his "princess" if he were alive.

I agree with you. Dumbest tracks ever. Honestly I have never see Humsafar but the male character seems like a jerk and the concept of females having to prove themselves is really backwards .

Just out of curiousity, why do you think "maa ka haq" is regressive?

Humsafar is very problematic & honestly it quite blatantly pushes regressive ideas.

But the difference is that its female lead is presented as a timid, overprotected, meek woman. Yet, she tries extremely hard to make her truth heard. Naira is presented as the polar opposite, yet takes off to cry the rest of her days out in Goa.

Humsafar's ML is made to believe that immediately after being caught red handed, his wife took off with her boyfriend while he had left the scene to contemplate. He never really asks his wife if she has been sleeping around, unlike Kartik. (And the first time he tries to reconcile, he still believes that the affair was real. I don't remember if Kartik gets that clarity from Mihir at Naira's funeral)

Humsafar's FL returns only because she's alone with half a career, so she can't afford the child's heart surgery. Even that realistic driving factor was removed from Kaira's story.

Maa ka haq isn't. Only maa ka haq is. Fathers all around the world suffer during custody battles because the stakes are stacked against them. Kartik touches that. Also how the world praises a mother's right over & love for the child. But a father's love is ignored & considered secondary.

Naira wanted sole custody. Kartik wanted shared custody. It was a very progressive & interesting debate but abandoned mid way.

Naira repeated this sentiment with Naksh. Said she won't support him to fight for Krish's custody because 'Maa ka haq zada hota hai'.

@Bold: I know this question isn't aimed at me, but I'd like to contribute. It sounds like YRRKH always tends to give more right of the child to the mother than the father, be it in the case of Kairav's custody or Krish's custody. In reality, both parents should have equal rights on the kid and should share joint custody. Of course, this is not always true in cases of domestic abuse, infidelity, etc. But in any normal situation where a couple has separated or divorced mutually, both parents should have equal rights on their child.

Indian society has glorified mothers and their sacrifices so much that fathers' contribution in raising kids goes unnoticed. On the contrary, fathers who do not contribute enough to raising their kids are not admonished but instead, the mothers are praised and put on a pedestal. So in essence, glorifying mothers' sacrifices and their right on a child, does one of two things: (1) either the father is set off the hook of the responsibility of raising children, or (2) the father's contributions and sacrifices go unnoticed and unacknowledged.

So saying that "maa ka haq zyada hota hai" introduces an inequality between both parents. A better explanation to give Naira custody would be that Kairav had been with her his entire life and separating him from the only constant caregiver he has ever had would be detrimental to the kid. Not that Naira has more right on Kairav just by being a mother.

Think about it if the situation were reversed. If Kairav had been with Kartik his entire life, then it only makes sense that his custody be given to Kartik, since he was his only primary caregiver all his life. If we employ the logic of "maa ka haq" then would it be right to give the kid's custody to a mother who has been absent his entire life and is not as close to him?

nairas fake death went against her character so badly that it did ruin the show for me completely.

This is the same woman who gives advice to elders in her family, about morality and being good. She decided to pretend to be dead a punish an entire family and her child because of her pride.

Humsafars i do not think was regressive not at all. Compared to other pakistani dramas it was really a progressive drama.

Khirad left because Ashar never speak when he should have. Because he was insecure .

He never kicked her out. His mother did and lied she left.

Khirad pregnant, still told him she was going to have the baby granted he never recieved the letter. She was mature enough to tell him.

When he never came for her. She lived her life. Without him. She raised that child and when her child was sick only came back. What did naira do...

she raised her child like a total idiot let a random strange man baby sit him. Left her house open...despite having a child. It was ridiculous to watch. Honestly...

Khirad never weakened during the entire stay with ashar because of hareem being sick... while naira cried alot over the fact he remarried... and was weak a pitiful.

Khirad never once bowed down to ashar.

Even when he went against everything and decided to forgive her and she still didnt take him back because there was nothing she needed forgiving over....

Sure humsafars ended quiet poorly. But khirad was a strong woman. Naira was a clown she was practically having an affair with Kartik while he was married to his chaai wali

kairav the kid was such a poor actor, that he made this track so painful to watch while trying to be cute he came off as a spoilt brat.

This track ruined the show.

Two divorces was a bit much

the best indian version of humsafars was kuch rang pyaar ke aise bhi....

bhavna must have been too busy writing crappy tracks for mishti show that she just let her cook or somehing write this track

this entire track ruined naira

and also ruined kaira

and introduced the most annoying off spring ever

Naira was irresponsible enough not to tell kartik the child was sick

which was beyond selfish🤔

who cares about his life now...

all she should care about as his mother and as a mother is the child is well and has everything he needs...

Naira running away, pretending to be dead & ruining her child’s childhood all because of her personal issues with Kartik has spoilt Naira’s character for me.

Ever since the leap, I haven’t been able to sympathise with her because she just comes across as self-absorbed, selfish, hypocrite & ignorant.

I wouldn’t have minded had she confronted Kartik, even divorced him but told him about the kid. There was no need to put the child & families through hell because of Kartik’s mistake. Worst is, she never even realised or apologised for it all. All her actions were justified under the “maa ka haq” theory and the bs sacrifices.

I am sorry if I can’t sympathise with a mother for doing odd jobs throughout her pregnancy, endangering her child’s life when she could have easily told her family who are pretty loaded.

Kartik is no saint but at least he apologises for his mistakes & tbh he already paid for what he did by living in misery for 5 years, thinking his wife was dead.

Anyways, even if I try to let go of that leap, Naira constantly mentioning her & Kairav’s time in Goa keeps reminding me of it. She doesn’t even realise how insensitive she appears when she keeps boasting about it in front of Kartik.
