The episode was rather damp today with more screen time for setting base of the upcoming tracks -- PP's manipulations and Devyani's story. May be most of us were disappointed with the episode because we were expecting it to begin with Virat calming down Sai after the show down with PP at night. But I would like to discuss the "BEST" scene of the day:
Kaku is insistent that the Karmsamapti ritual should be performed and coaxes Virat to write his wife's new name in the plate of rice. Virat, who did not utter a single word all through Sai's vehement opposition of the naming ceremony and family members trying to reason with her to accept the sudden change of name, coolly walks to the thali and writes a name (pata nahi do Akshar Ka naam kitni baar Likha ki itna time laga. I counted him drawing the 'Sa' thrice. May be he was figuring out the 'ee' ki matra of the devanagari script 😜😅. chala, asudya Chavan saheb). Everyone is is shocked to see the name matches none of the three akshars he's been asked to pick even as Sai continues her rant without even turning to see the plate and he continues watching her half amused and half eager to see her reaction. She turns, sees the name and in a fraction of a second looks at him, immediately reading his eyes although just few seconds ago, she had cursed him in her mind "samajhte kya hain khud ko."
I loved, loved, loved this scene. One because it was fresh (and not in the other two versions) but also because it gave me a window into the mind of the guy who he is supposed to be- an officer of the Indian Police Service, who is expected to be tactful, firm and composed in tense situations. He is trained to negotiate unreasonable, tricky and risky situations not by might but more by mind. And although I still want to verify his UPSC topper claim 😅, today, I was happy watching him.
Virat knows how to pick his battle and how to expend his energy. He did not feel the need to get into the argument -- he was almost annoyed with the thought of another argument when Sai began her vocal opposition and the others engaged her in a verbal match, which thankfully did not escalate into a fish-market fight that Chavans are coming to be known for 😂
So he stood there, listening to everyone and their suggestions for the new name. He heard Sai, speaking of her father's tattoo and his only memory attached to her so closely. He made his choice. In any case, I doubt he'd have named her anything else at such a short notice but his action of picking 'Sai' spoke volumes without words.
He didn't feel the need to fight or explain. He didn't want to indulge anyone in any stretched argument because he knows he's caught in between two rigid sides. So the best action is to do what feels right. It also conveys that his support for Sai in the smallest of actions without putting down anyone's ideas or escalating matters.
His simple: "insaan ki pehchan badalne Ka haq sirf usko hai.... Tumhe koi majboor Nahi karega... Main Sai ke faisle ki respect karta hoon..." was enough to let everyone know that when he's around, so long as she's right and her being right does not take away anything from anyone else, he will back her with all his might and all his composure. End of story.
It brings me to this: Virat has chosen this battle. He did not decide to marry Sai in an emotional moment or a sudden provocation. It was a well thought of move. He weighed his pros and cons, the burden of the guilt of not fighting for the girl he wanted to be with against the guilt of having a young girl lose her father partly because of him, he weighed the family's response (which we learnt later) and also the impact Sai will have on his family. He knew she's not a people pleaser that his family is used to having. He knew she won't keep her mouth shut and bear the insults of the family (all other differences set aside) but his instinct told him that he could still marry this girl and take her home. Would he have married Sai just to fulfill his farz if she were someone like Karishma? No. He did not fight for Rani of Maturegarh despite being in 'love' with her even after his phera with Sai as he claimed.
But he is ready to fight for Sai to the extent of allowing her to have her way, without questioning her or interrupting her at any point. It's almost as if, "okay go girl, I got your back".
Love will happen. The seed has already been sown. But at this point, kya hai Chavan Saheb? Ye kaunse level wala pyaar hai ki duniya se ladne ke liye hi subah uttha karte ho, wo bhi bina Kuch bole? Saheb, tumhala Kalat asel tar aamhala hi kalave, please (translation is the heading of the topic 😄) Aabhar 🙏
Please don't miss the 440volt wala beam of pride on Sunny ji's face.
