Game over
He was supposed to gather all the evidence by adorning a stranger's mask and to his amazement, it was working really well. He knew about everyone now. The enemies thought their biggest threat was long gone. Their minor carelessness was letting him read all the goals like a phonics book. The happy and laid back demeanor of his for sure played a huge role in it.
On the other hand, he was getting a first-hand ticket to witness everything his hostage had on her plate. It seems that the question of his authenticity has helped others to shed their glamour of pretending. He could see plainly that she was hurting, both physically and emotionally. But he believed he just needed that last clue, then he could end the game as a winner. He wanted to know for sure this time around, that his wife's love and innocence were real. He could see her love for the 'deceased' husband but desired to be testified of it.
Unsurprisingly, he finished the game but surprisingly not as a winner. He thought he was a good player, the best in fact but he didn't reckon the villain may not abide by the code of ethics. He didn't think that maybe in his last attempt to get back at the hero, the villain may resort to victimizing the pretty hostage. He didn't imagine the hostage would end herself in order to stop her abuse. Furthermore, he didn't think it would be too late by the time he came for the rescue. The last clue cost him too much.
It was game over.
A/N: Hey, it's been so long since I have written anything in IF. I'm unable to watch anything religiously due to 'asli duniya'. I was making an effort to watch few snippets through YT because Voot is real pain in my butt sometimes and got slapped in the face with this idea. I apologize in advance for any typo or grammatical errors. You can blame it on my rusty writing skills but who we kidding here, I'm crappy at sentence structuring for fiction. Damn this AN is gonna be half the character count as the OS itself. Thank you and stay safe loves :)
