Maya , to continue with the tamil speaking in other countries topic ...
One thing we lack here is family . We have Tamil friends but their kids and my kids speak in English. Everytime we go to India my kids Tamil would improve speaking to elder people and house helps, drivers etc. After coming back from vacation, it would go down. They do speak to grandparents in phone .
We moved to India for couple of years in between mostly to give an exposure to kids to learn more about Indian culture , our families and we also wanted to take break from a monotonous life. My daughter was young that time so she picked up the language better than my son. One of our biggest worries living in this country is after us , our kids and their kids will lose the tamil culture ( language, food habits, festivals etc). Our kids are following it just to satisfy us now , once they are adults they will definitely lose their root. No wonder they are called ABCD 😒.

Yes agree....family and surrounding is a big factor....in Canada, the Tamil community is big...there are many Tamil events, temple festivals and all....also almost everyone put their kids now in Tamil classes, baranatyam classes or Tamil singing classes...so the culture and Tamil is kind of kept here....I find in US it’s not as much....you are from Texas right?
You know we have temple festivals here...it’s so authentic...everyone just dress up in Tamil outfits...there are stores in the entrance...Tamil snack items ....it was sad that this year it didn’t happen due to Covid.

I have heard about Canadian tamil activities. Really appreciate them for doing it and passing on to future generations.
Yes, we are from Dallas. We have a big Tamil sangam here but we don’t participate in those activities. We should have done that, I regret it now. When we came to US we were young, didn’t want to get involved in middle age activities. People who came here to do masters have different mindset than the people who came to work I think. We had get togethers with similar age group friends and frequency. Now that we have become middle aged , our thinking and perspective about life has changed. Once this COVID fear is gone, will try to join Tamil sangam 😊.
What is 7 across ? I know it is Archana . What is her nick name ?
Don know if they have nick name for her in SM ... HM calls her Achu 😕
They call her Achu amma but that doesn’t fit the cases.
