Mahavir Phogat is more worse than Dev!
Its difficult to sabotage one's career wishes and getting forced by parents to choose a career. Personal experience!
Those two girls could have become what they wanted in future. Its not compulsory to even make careers. These girls also wanted their small wishes such as behaving feminine, dressing like other girls to get fulfilled. But they were forced to adopt ways dictated by her father.
Have you seen the society the Phogat girls were living were. Their socierty would have expected them to be married off at the age of fourteen. They would have been became mother before 16. Only household work would have been their main life.
Their identity in this society is because of their father's strict discipline. Today they have a standing in a society which has one of the highest cases of female infanticide and foeticide.
as I wrote in my previous post he was uneducated and belonged to that generation.
They may wanted to become a housewife or would join any other professions but they would have never reached the position they are today if he wasn't strict with them (every indian parent is)
I agree with you here but isn't this what most of the Indian parents do to their kids??? Can we call them worst too
Mahavir did those things coz they came as a distraction to them. I don't think he was a worst father but he wasn't the best either.
Dev was the worst father, son and also the worst husband
I remember this quote from kota factory
Maa baap k decisions shayad ghalat ho sakte hai lekin unki neeyat kabhi ghalat nahi hoti
Being strict or lax as a parent depends on how your kid is....and I don't consider it right at all if a parent forces their child on a career of their choice. I'm a victim of that myself so I know how it feels.
Your kid is not a racing horse that you raise to make you win championships.
Mahavir's neeyat (intentions) were also not right. He wanted to get gold for his country and used his daughters for that. That was his primary goal. Everything else like making his daughters independent and self-sufficient were secondary to him.

Didnt mahavir ask for 1 year time from his wife and if the girls domt want to do it after thtat he would just let them be?
And what if things didn't work out after 1 year? Then neither his daughters would've become wrestlers and on top of that, no guy would've married them in the village.

Mahavir anyway went against the society by making his daughters wrestlers.
If he didn't want his daughters to get married in childhood, nobody could've done anything.
He made them wrestlers because of his own selfishness. Not because he was a great father.

This is what all our parents do and we can't say it aisa toh hota hi rehta hai. Nahi hona chahiye, just because you gave birth to your kids it doesn't mean you have the right to humiliate them
Movie me toh kuch nahi dikhaya but I've heard he used to beat them up too
mahavir in no way deserves the best father of the year trophy but when there's a comparison between him and dev, it's dev who's the worst. But mahavir wasn't good either.Originally posted by: Harley_Quinn

Kabhi kabhi baat ghalat ya sahin ko chunne ki nahi, ghalat aur kam ghalat ko chunne ki hoti hai. And here mahavir is kam ghalat
Dev was the worse but KANK dint glorify him. Mahavir phogat was equally bad yet he was celebrated
Yeh kya comparison hai? phogat is actually based on a real life father who obviously has some humility, love and respect ingrained in him.
the other is based on Kjo’s imagination who has.....ummm,,,,,,nuff said!
phogat (film one) is worst because of coercing his daughters into a profession which forced em to cut their hair w/o their permission...they couldve had developed different aspirations ...making guys a "distraction" & not having to choose wrestling bc their father wanted them to do so...it was all about getting a gold medal...having pride in nation is one thing but forcing a kid rather than giving them the opportunity to do on their preference was quite immature...yes they were part of society that was harsh but there were other career avenues that they couldve explored ...just wrestling?...its another thing that they are wrestlers bc they worked hard on their own to earn those medals...but what if they didnt want to become wrestlers or lost interst?
dev was bad in venting his frustration onto his kid & being unable to tolerate his wife's success in her career...his character was shit as heck but eventually he came to realize his blunders...the movie was just feekha in terms of story anyways
