What fault was of Gautam and Meera in Cocktail?

Gautam and Veronica were in a no strings attached relationship. It was clear from the start that they are not serious about each other.

Gautam fell in love with Meera and vice versa. What's their fault in this?

Veronica fell in love with Gautam but he didn't reciprocate the same feelings for her. Again whose fault here it is?

It was just bad timing that when Gautam and Meera realized their love for each other, Veronica too realized her love for him.

They still didn't cheat or backstabbed Veronica. They were upfront and told her everything. Veronica acted cool but while being drunk in the club, all her hidden feelings came out.

Meera then decided to end everything with Gautam and go back to India only for Veronica.

Gautam too instead of going behind Meera, stayed close to Veronica to check on her as she was not right.

Both stayed loyal in their friendship with her throughout the movie, but are called as backstabbers and cheaters by everyone only because they fell in love.

So is falling in love wrong?

Nothing wrong with Meera. She did what any moral person would do.

It was alright that veronica decided to change her views about commitment, but it was not right to blame gautam for not returning her sentiments, and even more wrong to blame meera for stealing her bf.

Gautam was wrong to get entangled with meera when his relationship with veronica was still ongoing. I mean not a court offence, but still, it was not right. But he undid some of that wrong by being upfront with her on the first available chance.

Veronica used to date other guys too while in a friends with benefits relationship with Gautam. Watch Daru Desi song carefully.

I think Gautam is hated for being with a "modern" Veronica but choosing a "sanskari" Meera as a life partner.

As of the three's relationship, I think that's the essence of the movie, and hence the title "Cocktail", no one was wrong.

Veronica was right to feel jealous of Meera for making Gautam fall for her and of Gautam for stealing the only person who she truly cared about in ages.

For Gautam, he was allowed to fall in love, since he never made any commitments to Veronica.

For Meera, she was at the most vulnerable when she met Veronica who stepped in as a sister and friend and when Gautam showed her that she is worth being loved and then, her husband comes in says that he wants a relationship. Yet, she chose Veronica above everyone else.

The three characters are messed up, in need of love and acceptance in their own way and only the other two can give them that, and I think that's the beauty of the relationship.

Thank you for this post. I don't really get why people call Meera names. Gautam might still have been a jerk, but Meera was the best loyal friend one could ask for.

The problem was that Meera broke the girl code. Never get involved with anyone who is involved with ur girl friend, be it relationship or fwb. That too that friend who took Meera under her wing when Meera was at her most vulnerable state.

Gautam was a d-bag, if not Meera he would've fallen for any other girl. I can't expect anything from him. But to fall for ur fwb's best friend is very low.

She didn't actually get 'involved' with him. It was just one kiss and the next moment she revealed everything to Veronica. It was not like she was going behind Veronica's back or anything. Falling in love is not a crime. And not everybody places best friends above everything. For some people, love matters more than anything else.

That I agree with. Falling in love is not a crime but there is an unspoken girl code or friendship code which is important. You never break it. It is wrong to be in love with anyone ur friend is involved with at any level. Forget us common folks, even celebrities get thrashed for doing something like that.

Ex’s, siblings and close friends are off limits unless you get permission. This is a well-known rule, yet girls still break it all the time. If you wouldn’t want your girlfriend to do something to you, then don’t do it to them.

Love means everything to me too, but I could never do that to any of my friends. Coz at the end of the day, I imagine Gautam would break Meera's heart at some point and Veronica would be there for her. He kissed her once and declared he was in love, no real connection before and after.
