There is something called supplier-induced demand, where you can be persuaded to like someone through elaborate manipulation and marketing.

In economics, supplier induced demand (SID) may occur when asymmetry of information exists between supplier and consumer. The supplier can use superior information to encourage an individual to demand a greater quantity of the good or service than "normal" or "organic".

In Bollywood, certain producers like Karan Johar end up controlling the narrative because they have practically hijacked every point of the supply chain.

So for example, we have Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra, two of Karan's proteges. He tried shoving both down our throats. One project worked, the other didn't. One can argue that he was invested in both, and the audience support was the ultimate deciding factor. But let's not forget that audience support does not get created in a vacuum. It's heavily manipulated by the bigwigs of Bollywood, who have access to the best of resources. And when someone like Karan decided he wants to manipulate careers, we have the steady flow of narrative which is jarring and predictable. On top of that, curating a career with his kind of expertise - not impossible at all.

All said and done, do you think supplier-induced demand works in Bollywood?

Discuss.

I can't tolerate Alia and Siddharth is okayish. Regarding your question and topic, I hardly understood anything because I am poor at economics. Sorry, I am not that intelligent.

hahaha, you and I can't and many can't. Those who can are manipulated to do so...that's the point I'm making. She lacks all qualities.

Considering the content of thousands of topics & posts here on IF as well as some real world observations , inclined to say yes (personally , no though for good enough reasons ; almost always prefer offbeat movies, characters etc for same reasons)

Nothing wrong with it. SRK marketed himself like a madman in the 90s. Cornered the magazines, Award shows & Awards and used to cut his price in half for the the big banner films of Yashraj, Subhash Ghai, Rakesh Roshan and the likes. No other actor did it then, so they only used to work with SRK. People can call it manipulation, but I call it genius.

Yeah, in a remote area you just have to buy what the shop owners keep in their stores. If they are selling low quality paracetamol or ORS you have to buy those low quality meds. And BW like any other caste/religiin-based business field is a remote area.

Well if they managed to fool an entire nation into believing they needed a product/ talent which wasn’t really that gr8 to begin with (as per some ppl here)

I say they deserve kudos...ppl should study them in marketing textbooks ...

They are much smarter than their market then and deserve praise and money and success for that alone 👍🏼
