I never understood why Hindus burn effigies of Kumbhkaran on this day. As far as I know, he didn't support Raavan's actions of abducting Sita and he told his brother that he's on the wrong side. He respected Ram but still fought him because Raavan was his brother. Seems like a good guy who got caught in a mess.

Well even Raavan looks much better than today's humans. His only fault was that he abducted a woman against her will. Men today do worse things to women.
