Yes that’s a common theme in BW movies since the 60s at least :)

A film set in 1960' of Kolkata reflects the love story of a couple who have their relationship tested when the guy's father began to create misunderstanding between them.

Class difference is one of the themes of the film.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Tour guide and ambitious girl fall in love, get married, lose their child then fall apart because of their distinct nature in the long run. They call for a last meeting to sort stuff out but he never comes. Devasted, she can't get over him even after several years and during a train trip, she encounters his wife and child, and eventually confronts him, feeling betrayed. Finally she learns that he had come to that last meeting but had later left, deciding to water the flower instead of plucking it.
