Honestly though, most of them use such reasons to feel good about themselves, the whole savior complex. There is a reason why the focus is always on caste system and abolition of Sati and hardly on the atrocities they committed. In the past few months the mentions have already increased, especially after the calls for removal of Churchill's statue. There were a lot of justifications which came up. It was then that it became apparent that even the neutrals inherently think of colonialism as something which 'saved' the subcontinent.

It’s funny because the caste system is nothing different from racism & Sati is no different from how the “cultured” brits killed & Indians. It’s still murder. They burned the so called witches too over centuries.. son how they feel they are better is funny. They may take credit for abolishing Sati but during the reign of Mughals too it was made illegal.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Not really. But it was an eye opening thread to see the experience of the members. Inspite of Indians reaching every part of the word, ignorance does still remain for the westerners

I thought we are talking about the general population who has access to an education.

Even if people go to rural schools, they will have a standard board which they need to pass. So they would know there are 7 continents (excluding the very remote places in India where there may not be proper teachers)

Some state boards are much harder, (like UP) board than the countrywide CBSE & ICSE board.

English is easier in India than the US but other subjects, especially maths is much difficult here. Also, some kids learn upto 4 languages till 4th grade including English. Recently they have changed the CBSE curriculum & I have heard its become easier, so we never know..

Yeah. They wouldn't let me into Aer in Bombay because I was "underdressed."

It is sad. We Midwesterners are treated like hicks and bumpkins everywhere. 😭
