They say its for making people the bad effects. Seriously? Audience even shipped couples who got involved in extra marital affair & gave lame logic like "the wife couldn't give enough time thats why the husband fell for other woman".
Also, toxic partner.. audience celebrated toxicity. In Beyhadh1, Maya tortured Arjun to beyond extent & they still wanted them to end up together even though Maya never changed.
Same thing happened with show "Saubhagyavati bhava". They shipped FL with her murderer psycho husband.
