So the whole strategy of OTT release of low - medium budget movies not making business sense? For whom? The makers or the OTT guys?
Were the release happening just because the producers could not wait endlessly for the situation to improve... And then battle each other for a release date?
Did they think it is better to take a hair cut now than wait and risk movies bombing at the box office?
Is it just hotstar that is suffering or Netflix and prime too?
I was hoping that OTT could be a platform to release movies that are not given a fair deal by multiplex chains
Ott guys , they are not seeing increase in subscribers as they expected.
They released it coz they would be having loans whose interest rate would be going up , so better take ott deals and get the money.
Since ott gave huge deals initially as they expected people would subscribe to watch them when all theatres are closed and people are at home, yet that didn't come through.
If hotstar is suffering than it's easy to say netflix and prime would also.
I dont think people would subscribe for a streaming service for movies; specially when they don't have big catalogue.
