Similarities

I was recently watching a show called "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries" (basically modern day retelling of the "Pride and Prejudice") on YouTube, and as many others who are well acquainted with the character of Mr. Darcy, was predictably quite impressed with the portrayal of "William Darcy" there.

He had been even called "robotic" (Darcinator being one of his nicknames) for his standoffish demeanour, which reminded me of ASR's characteristic march.

And then that got me wondering, about how Arnav Singh Raizada also, is quite like that as a character too. How he also comes off as being cold, calculating, arrogant, socially awkward(?), but can be quite caring and humane towards the ones he actually gives two hoots about. And let us not forget the rich business man part. 😆

I'm quite sure that maybe comparisons have been drawn in the past between how alike the charm of these brooding protagonists are.

And now coming to the female protagonists (Khushi and Lizzie) - they're quirky, carefree, endearing, unapologetic, and knows how to put others in their place if need be. And are well-meaning in general.

Then the classist issue between them...

It just got me thinking if this is the recipe for swoon worthy romance ~ funny, effervescent girl vs stoic guy?

So, any other fictional characters you guys found such similarities with?

This is what we know as the Mills and Boon genre. Yes! It's an entire separate genre in romantic novels where you will find these typical Angry arrogant rich guy with a bad past vs. A clumsy happy-go-lucky not so rich girl. And it's been written since ages but Indian TV discovered this only a few years ago so you will notice many TV shows based on this theme (currently and in the past few years). Especially 4 Lions shows. 😉

Coming to Pride and Prejudice, I recently went through posts that compared the book with IPK. Since we are not allowed to post external links on IF, I'll just tell you to search for the username

"Pakki-ya-nahin" on "tumblr"

Even if you're not on tumblr, you can google this and see her posts (named as Aukat and Farak 🤣) She has made GIFs and given some dialogs by taking IPK characters and comparing them to P&P characters. Not only Arnav and Khushi, she has made it for other characters too! Have a look when you get some time. 😃

Oooh. I haven't read (m)any Mills and Boons stuffs (I think I have managed to read one till date, that too, not fully 😆, while in school. Was a bit scandalized, by certain details I remember 😆 Aaaah. Miss my innocence).

Yeah I went through a few of Phati-Sari's gif posts. 😆 Phenomenally funny. 😌

That also kind of spurred me on to an extent. To see if anyone else too thought this way here. I wasn't around since the beginning of the show, joined somewhere along the middle of it. So not exactly aware if someone made any such post previously comparing the resemblances.

P.S. - You used "happy-go-lucky" . To refer to the girls. 🤣 ☺️ (Okay I have the sense of humour of a 10 yr old 😆)

I haven't come across any such posts... at least in quite some time. Let's see how others respond to this. Since I'm not really a Jane Austen person and haven't read any of her stories (including P&P), I'll refrain from commenting over it. But others may see much more similarities here.

Even I haven't read any pure Mills and Boons stuff but since IPK is similar, I've read enough Fan fics of that genre 😂.

When I wrote happy-go-lucky, I backspaced twice and tried to think of another word to fit there but eventually let it stay. Glad to see you taking it in good humor 😆.
