“Mr Mehra tell us a story” said Kuki who was sat one side of him and Sneha on the other on the floor of Bajaj house with their backs to the sofa.
Rishabh asked Mehra wanted he wanted in return for winning Snehas custody for them and Mr Mehra asked for a Sunday morning
Having played hide and seek the girls were tired.
“A Story ? let me see”.. said Mehra cleaning his glasses.
“Little red riding hood?”
No - said Kuki she’d heard that too many time’s
“Three little piggies?” Sneha hid at the sound of that she was too afraid of the big bad wolf.
“Cinderella?” Said Mr Mehra with bright eyes confident about this one.
The girls didn’t look impressed.
“Okay you choose” said Mehra hoping this might settle matters.
Kuki but per thinking pause on, tell us about you said Kuki.
Me ? said Mehra surprised “well okay” agreeing because it seemed to make the girls happy.

A little later cooking in the kitchen was one of Prernas favourite Bengali deserts. Prerna played sue chef to her mother. Their normal chit chat was Interrupted by a little visitor who balanced herself on the side of the counter.
Kuki looked at was going into the bowel at the kitchen counter and then turned to her purpose of leaving Sneha with Mr Mehra in the lounge.
“Mom were you and Pa childhood sugar hearts like Mr and Mrs Mehra?
Prerna tried to make out Kukis question and then smiled when she realised her words were a little mixed up “Sweethearts?, “ she corrected with Veena grinning beside her and Rishabh walking past in the background unnoticed by others overhearing.,
“.. erm no” Answered Prerna
“Then?” - Kukis eyes looked on at her in question
“Well ..your Pa asked me if I’d be your mom and I said yes” explained Prerna gently at which Rishabh smiled before walking away minding his business.
“Oh thank you for saying yes!” Kukis hazel eyes sparkled as she reached out to wrap her hands around Prerna in a quick hug.
Veena watched on smiling at how adorable Kuki was, at the same time hoping she didn’t have any questions for her!

Getting closer to lunchtime.
“I won’t be long” said Rishabh behind the bonnet of the new car he was working on these day’s . It was usually his girls that came knocking telling him dinner was ready and if he wasn’t quick Mom would be cross.
Hearing Prernas footsteps was a nice surprise.
“I’ll be right there” he said having raised himself out from around the mechanics of the car
“It’s no bother just.. yuhi ..” (Just visiting)..was the sort of expression Prerna gave off.
She walked into garage a little more and saw an old picture of Rishabh on the work bench. Smiling at the similarities and differences she saw in her husband now vs then.
“Do you think things would have been very different if we’d met earlier?” She said softly putting down the picture back in its place
“Why do you ask?” He said going about his task. Aware that maybe Kukis questions may have raised a few for Prerna.
“Yuhi” (no reason) she said.
“I think you’re a hopeless romantic Mrs Bajaj” said Rishabh after a moment.
“Takes one to know one” she replied..with a smile watching him come away from the car and walk towards her.
“ Tell me what’s on your mind” he said wiping his hands whilst she perched up on the work bench. He said watched her his eyes working out how best to describe her thoughts..
“Kaash ham aapse bohot pehle mile hote” (just things would have been different if we’d met earlier)
“Life would have been a lot less painful” she said happy with her choice of words.
He looked into her eyes with a reassuringly.
...“You wouldn’t have let all the bad things happen” she continued looking up at him a little then moving to play with the buttons of his shirt.
“I’m here now”…he said to get her attention with those eyes of his .
Without saying a word more he could comfort her, heal her and be solace to her soul. She broke away from his eyes to keep smiling.
Rishabh however had other ways to pick up Prernas spirits, drawing closer for romance but interrupted by some familiar voices.
“Da ..!!! Pa!! It’s dinner time” Sneha and Kuki shouted from the entrance which made Rishabh take a knee jerk reaction and stop in his tracks making Prerna giggle.
