Kal Ho Naa Ho had the same theme of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, that "Pyar dosti hai". But it doesn't explore it properly just like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In fact, it's worse than Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in exploring this concept. That's why people always question whether Rahul truly loved Anjali or Naina truly loved Rohit. When both the movies wanted to tell that Rahul and Naina were always in love with Anjali and Rohit respectively. Tina and Aman were just people in their lives who really impressed them, so much that they thought they were in love with them. But it was just pure infatuation for them.

Naina was NEVER in love with Aman. She just got impressed with him because he solved all her problems. She just got infatuated by him just like her sister Jia. Do you think Jia was really in love with Aman? Nahi na, the same way Naina too was never truly in love with Aman. She was always in love with Rohit. That's why she was easily able to move on from Aman to Rohit just in a few weeks. The problem was, movie never portrayed it properly.

There's a scene in the movie where Aman tries to convince Rohit telling him that Naina just thinks that she's in love with me, but is actually in love with him. That's because he just came in her life all of a sudden and impressed her with his charm, but Rohit always being a friend of Naina, she took him for granted. Audience thought that he's saying all that just to convince Rohit, but it was actually the truth.

I think the movie in the end became all about glorifying and celebrating the greatness of Aman, so much that it overshadowed all other aspects of the film. There's a deleted scene of the movie, which I think was important because it showed Naina realizing her love for Rohit. There's also an alternative diary scene which was also deleted where Aman reads the first few lines written originally by Rohit himself, where we see Rohit confessing his love for Naina. It made more sense rather than audience suddenly seeing Rohit in love with Naina in Kuch toh hua hai song.

The movie actually never explains why and how Aman and Rohit fell in love with Naina. They only show Naina's journey and it's understandable since she's the narrator of the film, so they are showing her perspective, and that may also explain why Aman is so much glorified in the film, because that's how Naina saw him. However, the glorification of Aman brought the film's quality a bit down, though in return it gave SRK a chance to show his exemplary acting skills which again brought it's quality up but for different reasons.

This film is a waste of time and energy. Most of the people I know dislike it. Even on this forum, majority finds it cringeworthy.

Couldn't agree more. I never found KHNH all that great and some people even bawled their eyes out half way through the movie, which makes no sense to me.

SRK has many good, watchable movies but KHNH wasn't one of them. The SONGS, on the other hand, remain one of my favorites of all time.

I love this perspective and I think I agree!

Naina didn't know Aman much - Not his past, Not his character nor who he truly was. Infatuation makes a lot more sense. Some infatuations can be hard core and easily confused with love. Plus she barely knew him for some months!

People easily get smitten for various reasons and start going ga ga over them while taking their obvious loved ones for granted!

I feel both Rohit and Naina took each other for granted. The friendship and care they had for each other was their little safe haven away from their messy personal lives.

If Aman wasn't around, I feel they both would have realized in their own way that their friendship wasn't meant to be friendzoned. And Rohit actually does during the whole cafe renovation!

Post Rohit's realization, Aman actually wasn't needed. His confession would have been enough to get Naina start thinking of them!

That's how real relationships are anyways. You need that one person to kick start the process and other follows with a "Yes" or a "No"!

So the gist is ofc they loved each other. If not before the wedding, definitely post that. There were a lot of reasons why she would have realized her love for Rohit!

She would have eventually...he’s a lovable guy

Butttt I so wish she wasn’t obligated to marry him quickly before srk dies like she has some deadline

I mean did she really have to marry rohit while crying her eyes out for aman in the Mandap? cant she get some time to deal with the news and marry rohit at her own pace when she felt ready to? Why did she HAVE to marry him urgently?

Naina moving on from Aman doesn't really prove that she didn't love Aman

Rohit too was all set to move on with Camilla.. of Camilla wasn't a gold digger, he would have found his love too in her😆

You don't really need to know a person's past to fall in love with them.. Naina fell in love with Aman's personality, his optimism, his way of living..

Naina and Rohit were best friends, each other's comfort zones.. you don't always fall in love with your comfort zone.. but that doesn't mean you can't learn to love them, albeit differently..

Dr Jug explained it beautifully.. what Naina felt for Aman was a different kind of love and her feelings for Rohit were different.. she didn't always love Rohit.. she learned to love him..

Let's not forget Aman's words played a huge role in making Naina see Rohit differently.. the diary scene was the deal.. that's what helped her make up her mind.

It depends on what you define as love right?

I think Naina and Rohit did love each other. Their relationship is friendly and close. They share mutual respect, trust, and understanding - the key elements of successful relationships. They are also attracted to each other as evidenced by the flirtations and Naina's annoyance at Rohit's dates. They don't act on it because of where they are in life. Naina has trust and abandonment issues because of her father. She's built a wall of unavailability around herself. Rohit is aware of this wall and is respectful of that. Besides he's in the fun bachelor phase. He's not interested in anything serious and just wants to have fun; and he knows Naina is not down for that.

I actually doubt if Naina was actually attracted to Aman. She barely knew him when she believed she was in love with him. He's the first man in her life who seems to be selfless and shows up when people need him and doesn't abandon them. For someone who has abandonment issues, that can be a powerful force - but beyond that - they never really have any meaningful interactions to fall in love.

As for Rohit, I don't think Aman makes him fall in love with Naina. You can't convince people of that. What Aman does is make Rohit realize that he's ready to be in a relationship and take a chance with a woman he likes.

I also doubt if Aman actually loved Naina either. As I said there was no opportunity for them to get to know each other and fall in love. A lot of his actions seem to stem from his savior complex. He seemed more taken in by Naina's vulnerability and reliance on him rather than Naina herself.

Aman's fatal diagnosis is the catalyst for everything in the story. Who was Aman before he found out he doesn't have much time left to live? Was he the same cheerful selfless person or did the notion of death change him? Would Naina have fallen for the Aman before his diagnosis?

But the dying Aman is the person who makes Naina overcome her trust and abandonment issues and Rohit starts thinking about a serious relationship.

Without Aman, there is a fifty-fifty shot that Naina and Rohit would have eventually gotten together like the friends turned lovers trope.

Although, it would have been interesting to see Aman and Naina pursue a relationship and see where it went. The characters in Walk to Remember Marry even though the girl is dying. In fiction and real-life people have gotten into relationships and even married - even though one of them is dying. And even in non-fatal settings like Before Sunrise and Friends (Ross and Emily) people have chosen to spend time together even though the eventually have to part.

What would have been more interesting would have been if instead of the Kanta ben joke track Rohit was actually bisexual and fell for Aman too.
