Maybe I am being overly optimistic here, but I somehow feel like this Vikram track is being done for 2 reasons:

1. To show Malhar's feelings to the audience - so far we know what Kalyani feels. She said it clearly that she will love no one else but Malhar. I know in today's episode, she was harsh and angry and said she doesn't care about Malhar anymore, but we all know that is a lie. When Kalyani is calm, she tells her true feelings. Right now, Malhar feels that he is not good enough, so he is pushing her away, but I feel when he finds out that Vikram is not so good, he will protect Kalyani and we will get to see his true feelings. In this process, I hope we get to see the return of Atom Bomb and not this majboor Malhar Rane.

2. I feel like this will be the track for the next month. So Malhar will save Kalyani from Vikram and then only I feel like the shooting truth will be revealed. So this will increase AnuYani's guilt towards Malhar.

Hope so, the current stuff is boring and unbearable. If they finally start showing back glimpses of old Malhar, THR will be easier to watch.

It's why the KalTharva forced marriage track was more interesting... Malhar was doing something and everything he could to avoid the worst and to not let Kallu go. Now, he's just like he doesn't care.
