A lot of critics gave good rating to Badri but panned Shaadi Mein Zaroor even though the plot of the movies were similar and Rajkumar is much better actor than Varun and Alia and Kriti are almost on same level. Is it bc of nepotism?

I personally liked Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana much more than Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya. But at the box-office, the former crashed whilst the latter soared. I don't know why critics panned it, though. I doubt nepotism had anything to do with it.
Critics praise just insiders ? If Bhai cared he would take offense 😆
Appealing cast, chartbuster music, wider release. Also it was a much better film than SMZA.
Because literally everything was in favour of BKD, and everything was against SMZA:
. BKD was more entertaining where SMZA was boring in comparison
. BKD got much, much better PR due to nepo kid leads while SMZA was mostly ignored due to both leads being outsiders
. Most importantly SMZA had a regressive message that was like 30 years out of date, while BKD’s storyline was in keeping with the times

But then why was Kabir Singh such a big hit? Lol frankly I preferred SMZA a lot more. The storyline doesn’t blow you away of either movie but this couple were so refreshing together and I found Kriti K was stunning in this movie. Sad she hasn’t been given more opportunities really. Also the song Jogi is so underrated!

Because Kabir Singh story had shock value which SMZA didn’t. Kabir Singh was presented as a rebellious, passionate love story where as SMZA was just endorsing what most backwards minded members of the older generation believe (that taking dowry isn’t THAT bad), hence it just made people roll their eyes rather than sit up and take notice.
But I agree that Kriti K deserves more opportunities, she is pleasant to watch on screen... and RKR is good too! Will have to google the song, as I think it was cut in the TV version we watched
Because SMZA was shown through the lens of the guy - he was the victim, whereas Badrnath showed it through the girl. hard to sympathize with someone who is neutral about dowry, thats why SMZA failed
