I think mostly due to nuclear families- grandparents still staying in their native and the present generation is not used to Indian style, so flats with more western toilets sell better than Indian. Unless you go to Mumbai, where it's almost a design to have one indian and one western in new buildings because a lot of them are SRAs (like almost all) and people there are used to Indian style, esp the older members of the family.

Also look at the average weight of us Indians and our common villain- arthiritis. 😆 Also very hard during old age.
