Season One Bajaj was brilliant. His track was so good. So bloody good. I don't think we've seen a better redemption track than his.
He started as a master in the art of manipulation and was exceedingly selfish. But even then, he was so sophisticated throughout. The way he forced Prerna to get married to him was just wow. After marriage to her, it was his private entertainment to rile up Anurag for no reason at all. And Anurag being the emotional man would always respond the way RB wanted to him. He was exceedingly courteous and well-mannered even when he was doing unscrupulous things. And his chemistry with Komolika was also lit.
He was obsessively in love with Prerna. I remember this dialogue when Prerna was trying to convince him to take back Meneka, his first wife. "Mere jeeteji woh (Meneka) iss ghar mein aa nahin sakti aur tum iss ghar se jaa nahin sakti". After his accident in Australia, when Prerna marries Anurag coz she thinks RB's dead and he comes back, Prerna legitimately gets nightmares about him separating her from Anurag. She says, "there's nothing he can't do."
RB quickly realises that if he forces Prerna to come back to him, she'll never do that. So he pretends to accept her marriage and then claims to be her friend. He gets a man to click compromising photographs of her with him after drugging her and then has her blackmailed while pretending to helping her. He's not above using his own children to manipulate her. It's only Prem's death that changes him. But even then, he takes every opportunity to create misunderstandings between Prerna and Anurag.
After the eight year leap, he changes and reveals his golden heart. And that is when Prerna falls in love with him.
Season one RB was made of vices and virtues. And among his redeeming qualities, the biggest one was his ability to love unconditionally. His love for Prerna remains unaffected in the face of everything. There's no judgement in his love, no conditions. He just wants to be the person who she turns to in her problem.
I am sorry if I'm giving you too much information about him. I just can't help it. I can go on and on about him. I think I had made a post about his character in an earlier thread also.. But yeah.. The point is that he was awesome. And I would say that it's impossible to put a tag on him. He was both good and evil. He was capable of both selfless deeds and Machiavellian schemes. He was capable of loving and hating. He was human.
