A

“Maa, you should have come with us.”

Ram hugged Kraanti, the noise of suitcases and people shuffling around stealing the two away for a moment.

“No dear, its okay. You go, and make sure everything gets done properly. And yes, all of you take some time out to relax.”

“Sure Maa,” he added. “I just hope they dont…”

Ram stopped, knowing better than to scare her before they’d be left alone.

“Child,” she replied calmly. “Sumitra and I have seen this for years now. We will take care, dont worry. Everything will pass, soon.”

The others followed on behind him slowly, in turn to bid adieu.

“Take care child,” Sumitra said as she ran her hand over Siyas hair. “Take your medicines on time. And call us everyday.”

Siya nodded, hugging her tightly. A part of her didnt want to go, or leave them behind in the slightest.

“See you soon Maa,” she said, taking their blessings and walking away.

The family followed her as they stepped out of the mansion, on their way to the airport.

“Siya,” Ram asked softly as the two sat in the last seat of the SUV.

“Youre happy right?”

Siya smiled a little.

“Ofcourse Ram, Im really excited. Maybe my face is a little tired to show it but, I can assure you, Im really happy.”

Ram nodded, running his hand over hers.

“Ill make sure we see a nice doctor there too, Ive talked with some friends, they’ve arranged an appointment.”

“But Ram, we dont need to..”

“Siya,” he whispered, gazing deep into her eyes. “I can do everything for you. All I want is to see you happy, healthy and safe.”

Siya smiled, gulping to hide the tears of her happiness from falling over.

“Hello?! Bhaiyya?”

Lakshmans voice broke through as the two turned to see all the others looking at them intently.

“We’ve reached,” Urmila said, hiding a little giggle. “Dont worry Di, you’ll get a lot of time to talk on the flight.”

“Hey!” Siya scorned.

“I was joking,” she laughed, bringing everyone to a lighter frame of mind.

“Lets set off then,” Ram beamed. “Shall we?”

“And that is where we’ll be staying for the next two weeks.”

Ram pointed out at a beautiful, scenic two storied cottage, at a place on the outskirts of London. The area was quite empty, away from the hustle of the city. It was just the recluse they needed and deserved.

The car stopped as they all stepped down and settled in.

“Wow Bhaiyya,” Shruti said, looking around. “Its so pretty! And a lot of the interior is like our house itself!”

“Youre right Shruti,” he added. “It was actually a broken place, but we bought it and leased it out on our own, and I had it furnished before we all came here.”

They gathered in the central hall, next to a large fireplace that seemed to radiate a beautiful warmth into them.

“So, day after is the opening. What are our plans after that?” Maanvi asked.

“Well, we could go somewhere nearby,” Lakshman suggested.

“Yup, and visit some theatres, watch a match if its on..” Shatrughan added as everyone seemed to nod.

“But guys,” Bharat said, “We must not forget that we have been sent here to rest, away from everything else. So please, give sometime to yourself too.”

Following a moment of silence, they slowly shuffled into their own rooms, tired from the days journey and ready to welcome a new day.

“Yes Maa, we had dinner. We’re fine Maa, take care. Good night.”

Ram stepped out of the Walk in closet as he found himself sitting next to Siya on their bed.

“What did Dad say?”

“Nothing just, he wished us all the best and told us to take care.” A moment of silence hung in between, the quietness of the countryside pouring in when she spoke up again.

“Bharat and Shatrughan are comfortable downstairs right?”

“Yeah, I checked it personally. They’ve settled in nicely.”

Ram shuffled a little as he made Siya lie down and found himself next to her, his eyes making out the frame of her face in the dark.

“I really like this place Ram. Reminds me so much of home.”

“Im glad you liked it,” he said. “Now, go to sleep.”

And she slept soundly as his breath cradled with his.

“And with that, we bring to your our latest series of layouts for the site in Yorkshire, and We assure you that everything will be all the better than you can expect. Thank you and have a good time.”

Ram walked off the stage as the lights dimmed for the presentation to begin.

“Great speech Bhaiyya,” Lakshman whispered from the side as entire auditorium watched in silence and exchanged impressive glances.

As soon as the AV ended, the entire crowd rose to applause, cheering on for their success.

“We’ve done it,” they whispered amongst themselves as the applause carried on.

“Wow, what a day,” Shatrughan sighed as he sat on the warm sofa next to the fireplace.

“I know right,” Bharat added,”Now thankfully we can relax.”

“And everyone was so nice at the party too,” Urmila said. She was happy that rumours of the rubbish that had been spreading back home had not managed to sabotage their peace here. They deserved calm, or atleast a break from it all.

“By the way, where’s Siya Di?”

All their gazes turned to Ram.

“She was feeling a little tired, so I sent her off to bed just now. Ill go and check.. good night everyone.”

He bid them adieu as the others sat in silence.

“Siya, is everything alright?”

Ram walked in, only to see Siya holding her head and sweating heavily.

He ran upto her, immediately handing her a glass of water and wiping her forehead.

“Is it paining Siya? Do you want any medicine?” Rams heart began pacing harder and harder.

Without any word, she got up and ran to the bathroom, dry heaving in the sink.

“Its okay, its okay,” he said, rubbing her back slowly.

After a long ordeal, Ram carefully brought her back to the bed, her face pale from the exhaustion.

“We’ll go tomorrow to the doctor, first thing in the morning.”

“No Ram I dont..”

“No Siya, we will,” he was stern, but his voice carried only love and fear for her.

“Bhabi, are you okay?”

They turned to see all the others standing at their door with worried faces.

“Im fine dear,” she said. “Now go, take rest. Ill go the doctor tomorrow, promise.”

Ram waited outside as the doctor asked Siya questions in the inner chamber and performed small tests. Each passing moment felt like an agony to him, and time seemed to stop in a way he never wanted it to.

He wanted her to get well, whatever it was and however she could. He would do anything, if she had to have an operation then he would…

Rams chain of thoughts were broken when he saw Siya and the doctor walking in, Siya being assisted by a nurse, and a bright light shining from her eyes.

Ram looked closely at her. Her gaze was elsewhere, yet, he noticed a bright tinge on her cheeks. Her eyes were shining, light reflecting off what seemed like tears.

He looked up at the doctor, who smiled back.

“Mr. Suryavanshi, I have some beautiful news for you.”

The entire ride, the two had been silent, holding each others hands strongly for support. Was it real? What theyd just heard.. Was it a dream or, had they heard right?

“Sir, we’ve reached.”

They looked up at the same time, brought out of their trance. Ram got down and rushed to help her down.

“Siya, are you ready to tell them now?”

She managed to look up at him and gulped, a smile appearing on her face brightly.

“They’ll be the happiest, Im sure.”

Ram nodded, inking her arm with his as the two walked in.

“Im sure he’ll suggest the correct treatment for Di,” Urmila said. “I just hope they have some facility or medicine to help her quickly.”

“True,” Shruti added, looking at everyone gathered in the dining hall, waiting to know what the doctor said. They kept talking, when Suddenly, Ram and Siya walked in.

They moved ahead to her, making the two sit in between as they waited with baited breath.

“Is everything alright Bhaiyya?” Lakshman asked.

“Uh, sure, kind of,” Ram began, as Siya curled her lips to hide a smirk.

“What .. what do you mean ‘kind of’ Bhaiyya? Bhabi, is everything okay?”

“I…I dont know what to say, dear.”

An audible gulp was heard from the room. Siya felt bad, watching their heart sink to their feet, but she knew a moment of fun would only add to their joy.

“Bhaiyya,” Bharat began now. “Will we have to stay here for longer? If its that then you dont worry you and Bhabi can stay we will..”

“No, actually, we might have to go back earlier. Its very urgent.”

“Oh god,” Lakshman whispered. “Then wait, Ill arrange for the tickets today itself, we will go and get you admitted immediately.”

“Actually Laksh, I will need to stay at home only for this, with you all.”

Confusion grew in the room by the moment, and tensions rose even higher.

“Thats okay Bhabi,” Shtraughan came ahead. “We’ll convert a room for your privacy and care.”

“Hmm,” Ram made a smirk. “We will need to convert a room, no doubt, even children need their privacy.”

Even the cracking of the fire fell silent, when suddenly Urmila let out a gasp.

“OH. OH MY GOD. Di, are you really…?”

The expression she made, made Siya chuckle out, unable to put up with the itch of hiding their joy from them any longer.

Ram turned to Siya and them to the others.

“We will welcome someone new into our world, soon.”

To say that were happy would be a massive understatement. They fell quiet for a while, only breaking as the sisters lunged ahead at Siya and hugged at her tightly.

“Bhaiyya..are you Serious?” Lakshman asked still agape.

Ram patted him, joy reflecting in his eyes. “I am and youre going to be an uncle!”

The brothers laughed and hugged each other as they all rejoiced, as if after long, the rays of god had finally shown bright on them.

“OKay, okay,” Urmila said. “Now lets take Di to her room, and Di, from today you are under our strict orders. No doing anything unless we tell you to.”

“Ok Maam,” she chided as they all walked up to her room.

Ram stood next to the mirror, gazing at himself after Long, both shocked and thankful to the passage of time and how things were turning out in his way. He didnt want to, but the words of the doctor earlier kept ringing in his ear.

(At the Doctors)

“Youre going to be a father, Mr. Suryavanshi, Congratulations!”

The earth beneath his feet began to shake and a jolt ran through him, his ears perked up, as if in absolute wonder and disbelief of what he was hearing.

“She’s very early in, but you did a good job that you brought her in today. I went over her reports of anaemia, and I can prescribe some medicines now and work on a treatment with her, and Ill refer you to my friends in India as well, so you can get her checked regularly there.”

“I..I hope everything will be alright doctor?” Ram asked worried.

“Sure.. I mean, yes, her case is a little more critical than what most mothers would go through, but she will make though it. Ive read about you all, I know she is a strong woman.”

“But yes,” he added. “You have to be with her at all times now. Cut down on work as much as you can, she’ll need a lot of personal attention. Im sure you will take care of her.”

“Hey.”

Ram turned around to see Siya standing and smiling at him.

He walked up to her, taking her hands in his and bringing them to his lips.

Now that they had a moment to themselves, they could finally come to terms with the beauty that had come in their lives now, waiting to be cherished.

“Thank you Siya, thank you for everything.”

Siya moved closer to him, finding a craved warmth in his arms.

“I hope we can give him or her the best life possible.” Ram said. “ I dont want them to grow in doubt or question about either themselves or the world around them. Ill make sure they become the best they can be.”

“And Im sure they’ll have the best father ever.”

“That is my only wish now Siya, trust me.”
