Finally watched the episode.... What an extremely well done episode.
For the first time after the initial months of the show, an episode spent a significant amount of time concentrating on the nuances of Anurag and Prerna's relationship. Both from Anurag's side through his entire conversation with Sid and prerna's, through Shivi's dialogues to her. And the sweet little scene of Sneha wondering about these two people tied it up.
The sum and substance of Anurag's life has always been Prerna's happiness. "Tum khush ho na Prerna", he asks with a glass in his hand to toast her success. He is today in a place where he thinks she is surrounded by family and is celebrating her success, while he is all alone, stuck in a miserable life and with no one to talk to. And that's exactly what he wanted! That's exactly what he set out to do when he took the cruel step of pushing prerna off the bridge. To break her heart, so she will break all her ties with him, escape the toxicity in his life that komolika brings and make a new and happy life for herself. I've said this always and say it again. For Anurag, nothing and no one comes before prerna and her happiness. He has never once thought about himself when it comes to Prerna. Never once thought that he loves and cannot lose her. Instead his thought is always about what makes Prerna happy. And what can I do to keep her safe. And therein he elevates himself and his love. The end justifies the means it's said. I wouldn't go as far as saying the means are justified. But the end sure is, from where Anurag stands.
As for Prerna, her position is aptly summed up by Shivani. She can never be happy if Anurag is unhappy. Because there was a time when she lived for his happiness. "Jise kabhi itna tootke pyaar kiya ho, Uss se nafrat Karna mushkil Hai". Like Anurag, prerna has destroyed herself to keep him happy and safe. When she agreed to a blackmail marriage, when she walked away from his home and his life to keep him safe after memory loss; she has always placed him before anyone else. He has broken her heart, she hates him with a vengeance but even that hate cannot complete kill the burning embers of her love because it had once burnt with such fiery passion.
The first Anupre rain sequence is special to anupre fans and it was so wonderful to see the leisurely time that was given to explore that scene and its significance in Anupre's journey. "Uss dinn ke baad main badal gaya", Anurag says and it highlights how pivotal thay day was in their lives. Because after that day Anurag Basu started changing into Prerna's Anurag. She taught him to appreciate the little things, to live a little more, laugh a little more and love freely. This Anurag Basu today is nothing but the sum and substance of Prerna Sharma's love. He's nothing without her because she made him. "Tum meri zindagi thi aur hamesha rahogi". He has no hopes and desires in his heart that she any place left for him in her life. He is sure that she has her hands out in the rain at this moment too, but he doesn't wonder if she's thinking about him. He has long since accepted that he's a closed chapter in her life but that makes zero difference in his devotion to her. His entire existence was dedicated to her and would remain so; and that started on this one day, the day these two stood together and enjoyed the rain. Because while the water was soaking their bodies wet, something deeper and stronger was seeping into their souls. I'm so glad that this time and effort was given to this pivotal scene, to connect that past and present. My only grouse if any, is that I wish they had added the FB of anupre singing ajeeb dastaan and then cut to present with the song playing in the background. But that mightve just been too much perfection I suppose.
And the final bit was Sneha. She is wondering about these two strangers today. One has been defeated and is happy; the other has won and is sad. Strange isn't it? Not so much because that is Anupre in a nutshell. They're happy as long as the other is happy. It's never about themselves, it's always about the other. There's no main in anupre. It's their fate that there will never be a hum. But as long as they live, and even after that , it will always be about tum.
