Badminton is not a popular sport in India like cricket. Prakash Padukone was a star player in his sport. But he was not Virat or Dhoni. (Similar to Vishwanathan Anand in Chess). How many in India know Deepika because of Prakash and Prakash because of Deepika?
But Deepika is a fine example, what outsiders can achieve, if given the same platform and launch as insiders.
Every one needs few mainstream films (with good story and songs) to establish their name. Outsider or an insider. Without it, nobody can register their name. But not everyone will establish after this.
You can give examples of some who got 5 good chances, but could not establish. But you can't give examples of any who got no chances, still established themselves. These initial movies are necessary but not sufficient condition.
Inside talents are guaranteed at least the necessary condition. Or else, even RK could not have established himself. It also applies to Deepika, who was an outsider. Earlier, outsiders and insiders got equal opportunities. Rahul Roy got same opportunity as Salman Khan. Sharukh and Akshay had similar number of movies with same female leads as Ajay Devgan.
Deepika an outsider had a mainstream debut just like Sonam. She got same opportunities as Sonam, even if she failed in initial one or two.
In last five years, we are not seeing such thing happening. Both in movie and music industry, there is one or two major players. Hence, their wills and fancies are imposed. We don't see that changing, unless there are more influential players in movie production industry.
Probably there were more producers a decade back. Hence we did not see that monopoly.
