Also, I feel the movie would have fared equally well without Sid and Alia. It's one of the best movies of the decade.

Everyone was cast to perfection , god did we need the post :-( miss Fawad , what an actor ! He probably would have accepted every unconventional role there was and nailed it to perfection , oh well !

No. I think Saif is a good actor but that role would've never suited him hence he couldn't have played it. Alia and Sid would've looked like his children and Rajat Kapoor would've looked like his older brother. Fawad was perfect for that sort of sophisticated, subdued role.

How would it have done equally well in box office without a popular cast, unless they casted some other popular actors. Like if in place of Alia/Sid, they casted Shraddha/Ranveer, than yeah, it might have been a case of being equally well in box office. But without popular cast, I doubt it would have done that well in box office, no matter how good the movie was. We have seen over the years, how good movies without a popular cast tend to not do that well in box office, only exceptions do well, and a urban story like K&S was hardly ever going to be an exception without a popular cast.

Saif would look too old for that role. Fawad nailed it
