YOU WON THIS THREAD AND ANSWERED IN A NUTSHELL. Amazing.

I agree that if you're in a position of power and privilege which they clearly are they then should accept the responsibility of it by working on their acting skills. Dialogue delivery, diction, expressions etc.

The argument can be countered by saying well if you don't like them don't watch their films - the audience as a collective have done that with ABJr and the likes of Arjun Kapoor who really are dead pan monotonal actors but they JUST KEEP COMING BACK.

I agree that majority of the onus is on the audience, but not every audience member knows about these small budget movies. These movies launching starkids are marketed so much that they are in every other television show promoting their movie or in an advertisement or on the hoarding. They are hard to miss. So, lets say my parents.. who are not on social media.. see these TV shows and promotions and the hype around it and a big trusted banner launching them, they are easily attracted. Compare that to a small budget movie launching newcomers, which has only online promotions like say an interview with certain BollywoodHungama type website.. how is the general audience supposed to know about it? Also since the production house is small, money invested in these movies is not enough to grab eyeballs. e.g. SOTY had no known faces, but the glamour quotient was so high bcoz of Dharma's investment that we went to watch the grandiose at least.. story acchi nikli toh thats a bonus.. Small scale movies dont even have that. Kriti an outsider got noticed bcoz she came alongside Tiger in a Nadiadwala movie which had some known tunes from Hero movie. My point is if people like Karan launch outsiders in big budget movies with equal hype and hoopla then people will be interested in them as well. As far as I know, no two outsider actor/actresses have got a big budget launch in a long time. They have to rely on their luck for someone to notice them in their small scale debuts.

People like Karan wont put their money on an outsider with the same conviction.. but when they notice an emerging outsider like say a Vicky.. they jump on the bandwagon and start making them a part of their movies.

I think star kids believe in the “learn as you go, learn on the job” model

You just said it.

I admit that it's not the case with every star kid but it's a normal phenomenon, when you know that you will get the things easily, you start taking it for granted. While, outsiders and those who know that they will be out anytime or won't get the limelight and popularity, they have to work hard and put their heart and soul to do that no matter what.

Well written. Look back at the promotion of Dhadak vs Laila Majnu in recent times. Dhadak, SOTY2 was so well promoted.

P S - Vicky is not an outsider.

Also why do they need to work on their skills? Shouldn’t they already know how to act?

That’s why Ranbir and Hrithik don’t get much slack cuz they’re actually good.

If you’re going to use nepotism to get work you should be worthy of it. Not sleepwalk thru roles and pick up as you go

There are plenty of “real” actors who can deliver a strong performance without “working on it” after a movie releases. Kareena used this modelling too, took her 7-8 years to find her groove

Ekta's movie business has struggled over the years. At one point she wanted to close it too. They are trying to find a foothold again with small budget films.

Most promotions are free promotions. It's easy for star kids to get on talk shows and interviews and have TV news channels host shows for them. Those kind of promotions are very hard for new actors from the outside to get because nobody is interested in them. Everyone would be dying to interview Jahnvi for her first movie especially after Sridevi's death.

For outsiders, almost all promotions would have to be paid promotions like buying MediaNet pages in Times of India or putting up posters or airing promos on TV. Small movies also have a small budget for promotions. There is no point in spending crores when that investment will go nowhere. Internally, producers already know how much money a movie like Laila Majnu can make in profits. Nobody is going to overspend for promotions that won't make a big difference.

And I'm sorry but there are people starving in the world. There is no need to have bleeding hearts for outsider actors who make 50 lakhs instead of 2 crores. They already know what kind of a field they entered and how difficult it will be to get to the top where they earn 50 crores a year and have their face on posters. Their "struggle" really doesn't matter to me.
