There is a huge reaction to Sushant's death because people saw themselves in Sushant. The ordinary guy with no contacts who rose from a humble background and through his sharp brain, hard work and making use of available resources, got trained at the best places to build a stellar resume and achieve success step by step. This is the story of all of us, be it doctors who slog to get that government seat in a medical college and later for PG as they can't afford fees otherwise, or a middle class engineering student who works alongside studying for mba.

That ordinary guy was one of them. He achieved success just as we do, and unlike other celebrities, he came from 'our background'. Padha likha student background- not something we couldn't identify with. His stories and interviews resonated with us, especially the candid ones in the early stage of his career. Look at the pictures of his home in bihar circulating in social media- it's a typical middle class styled home with that sofa (cant explain it, just look at it and you'll understand) inspite of the fact that he left 59 crores worth of property behind and his family members are at high posts (again, not passed down, but achieved by exams and work) . He was the beloved Manav of hundreds of elderly aunties who don't watch news or read books but watch ekta shows. There too, he didnt play some designer character- he played a garage mechanic who wore chequered shirts with jeans, the cheap kind sold outside Mumbai's local stations. Even in most of his movies his roles were like that- one amongst the masses. Nobody looked at him as a Bollywood ka 'hero'- he was just one amongst us who 'graduated' to films.

And that guy with whom so many identified is gone. Whether snuffed out by others, or lost his battles to mental health, or suffered the pitfalls of 'loneliness at the top', no one knows and no one will ever know. But the same people who identified with his struggles and his success story, his background and his familiarity on TV, also identify with a lot more- similar stress they face in their own life- due to loneliness, due to financial issues, due to job pressures or politics/corruption at workplace, due to depression or other mental health issues they feel awkward of talking about, due to their continuous fight to get to the top, even due to the lock down scenario.

No wonder there is such a huge reaction to his suicide and even non fans saying they feel deeply disturbed by news of his suicide. My mom herself confessed today that she could not sleep well that night even though she never really liked Sushant. I have not seen such a truly collective grieving reaction in a long long time.

True and I've a feeling it's not, because a lot of us saw ourselves in him. Like I said it in another thread its a country of small townie middle class youngsters trying to make it big. We all face nepotism on a daily basis and we connected with him and one amongst us died so repercussions toh hona hi hai, bas ab long term ho ye changes.

He was murdered.

He needs to get justice thats it.

Too many deaths in BW have been brushed off as suicide.

Beautifully written 👏

So true. We can see ourselves in him. And that's why it hurts so much. 😭

I have to share this on here, someone replied to a comment I made back in 2016 on youtube where I said Sushant is the most talented young actor, of course I named a star kid who is overhyped while sushant gets no credit for his movies. (I am not going to name starkid since no fan wars) I wonder if sushant read those comments

His simplicity was his USP and his smile was endearing. It pains me that such a young kid took his own life, he had so much going for him, he had so much to live for, he could have had a family, his own kids, his own world.

He reached everyone's home through television and grew even more with movies.

People initially were very upset but it turned to anger the moment KJO and his cronies tweeted and showed their double-facedness. That triggered everyone

For me its shame that I didnt see him clearly before. I didnt buy every story from the blinds, but I didnt see how hard he was trying to fit in. I’ve been watching all his old interviews this past week, and its just so blatantly obvious how earnest he was and how badly he was looked over, even with people who were supposed to be talking to him.
