Talking about mental health I want to share something personal.i have seen it in my home.my brother has been suffering from depression since he was a teenager he showed signs of depression but my parents could not understand it at first back then there was not much awareness about mental health.few years later only then things got worse my parents realised that he needed professional help and took him to psychiatrist he was on medication for many years and almost recovered completely.then one day he stopped his medication saying I am fine now I don't need medicines anymore.still he was fine for some years without medication then he again showed signs of depression also had insomnia he would be awake whole night but he refused to go to doctor my parents tried a lot but couldn't take him.when his condition worsened they forcibly took him to doctor and he was diagnosed again now it has been two years he has been on medication and has got better.

I felt like sharing this.if someone has any issues they should share it with family/friend and it should not be ignored like my parents did.if someond is on medication they should not stop it on their own.someone should be with them and make sure they take medicines.these things me and my family has learnt.

Thank you for sharing this. Glad you're brother is doing well now. He's lucky to have such supportive and understanding parents and sister like you.

More often than not, our generation blames the parents/oldies for not understanding mental health issues. In most cases, social conditioning and lack of awareness are the main culprits not the people. Every parent wants their child to be okay and healthy at the end of the day. Families need the same kind of counseling for mental health as they get for physical ones. Schools should make it mandatory for parents to attend seminars on these so that they could identify the signs at home.

And someone should always be there with them. They should not live alone. Not just for medicines but general company. Just like one needs to be taken cared of when they have fever or any physical ailment, if someone suffers from heavy mental episodes someone must always be there to take care of them.

exactly lack of awareness is the main culprit.my mom still feels guilty about not understanding him when he needed support for the same reason.i ask her not to even if late they realised the issues and did everything to make him better.

@red-yes I meant that only someone should be there for support and care not just medicines I am not very good at writing.they should not be left alone.
