Unfortunately some people continue to suffer or more often than not a wake up call comes their way to shake them and seek help.

Very well said. 👏

My relative was depressed.. one way of tackling depression was sleeping..

Excessive sleep got the family alarmed and took the person to the Doctor..

Only pills and frequent trips to various places in India.. that’s how the family is trying to keep the person happy.. and not fall again into depression..

Suicide is preventable. I know Sushant is gone. But many of the people have been saved from suicide by their loved ones. Plus people with suicide tendency need to be monitored continuously. When the depression patient takes medicine there are chances that in between the medical treatment suicidal tendency increases in depression patient.

I know no one knew about his suicide thoughts or if he would have shared his thoughts with anyone or not. If he could have share, the situation would have been different. But yes being in on medicine and suffering from depression the person needs regular monitoring.

And yes being with loved ones reduces the possibility of suicide.

My point only is that depression patient needs continuous monitoring. The fact that antidepressant medicines have side effect to increase suicide tendency in person suffering from depression and only family aur medical professional can monitor continuously. I know this because I have been posted with suicide attempted patient many times.

I know not all suicides could be prevented but continuous monitoring reduces the possibility.

This !!

Not about Sushant but in general , at some point , the family / loved ones are also bound get to exhausted .. What if you watch over someone for 20 + yrs , try to help them as much as you can to the point that you forget to live your own life and succumb to a dark abyss yourself .. You have to pull yourself up and keep looking after the one who needs the care most .. Then you reach a breaking point - cant do this anymore , may be mass suicide ? - shudder ! .. Alcohol numbs the pain to certain extent .. But the grief and guilt over not being able to help that one person remains forever .. Sigh !

From where alcohol scene is coming!? Am I missing something?

Coming to the topic of your message it was just six month or one year in Sushant case. I have seen the family who stick to the the loved ones( suffering from depression ) for lifetime. Not all depression become chronic and last for lifetime, not all family members quit, or get exhausted even if their family member is suffering from chronic depression. I have many such examples in my life.

My cousin is doing her masters in clinical psychology and she has been a volunteer with suicide helplines for the last couple of years. She said to me that more often than not, suicide is an impulsive action, that comes like a stroke. Something that most people cannot help...it just happens. That is why, in a majority of cases, where we cannot really explain why a person took his life, there is no letter or note explaining their actions, or even if there is one, it is a very short, hurried one.

Very, very few people, actually think, plan and commit suicide. If they do, invariably, most of them change their mind at the last moment or do something unconsciously, that ensures, they get hurt, but they do not die.

Out natural instinct is to survive and fight for life, no matter what the circumstances.
