I wasn't aware that COL is be diff in diff states in US 😲 as I thought that incomes are approx. same in all places in US for certain niche roles / positions in IT Companies.

No it varies a lot depending on depending on the taxes you have to pay to the state , neighbourhood you live in , how are you commuting to work etc . Most expensive places in US are SAN Francisco Bay Area, Silicon Valley, LA, Seattle, New York City. These are the places where you can see both extremely wealthy people and also homeless people .
