No because those racist/ regressive/misogynistic stuff isn’t used to whitewash Indian history for the most part ( or I haven’t seen as much). A lot of confederacy history has been white washed over the years so it’s understandable that people would not want to see anything that whitewashes confederacy. I personally liked the movie but I can understand why other people wouldn’t want to see it .

I agree with you, but if it's too problematic it should not get any platform. Jisko dekhni hai woh DVD khareed ke dekh le. I assume Germany doesn't telecast any movie made before 2nd WW glorifying Hitler and his ideology.

Rahi baat GWTW ki, I fell asleep after 10 mins of watching it, so have no idea how problematic its content is.

I havent seen GWTW either but when you start censoring stuff in fear of offending people, it sets up a dangerous precedent

It's impossible to watch. It's like they stuffed the full Aquaman trilogy in a full film to keep it so busy, so no one notices the stupidity. Much like The Rise of Skywalker. 😆

It was really a lot and also fairly predictable even with its twist . Yes, I agree with Rise of Skywalker . So many plot loopholes 😆.

GWTW summary for people who haven’t seen it : Scarlett O’ Hara is an entitled rich South Girl who doesn’t care about much except for herself, runs after a married guy ( who isn’t the hero) for most of the movie and antagonises the hero for most of the movie . Only at the end of the movie she realizes she is in love with the hero but the hero rejects her saying he doesn’t give a damn and leaves .

Side plot: Scarlett running away during civil war only to find her glorious Southern home is no longer the same and rebuilding her life .

i guess people who like the status quo and want society to not progress are finding it really difficult to come to terms with the fact that problematic things are being called out...

I am glad that historical "icons" who were responsible for genocides/slave trade are being questioned and people are demanding they no longer be put on a pedestal (pun intended)..

I am glad problematic movies and books are being addressed, yes racism/sexism/homophobia etc was the norm then but we don't live in that period any more..we can't justify the injustices in the past saying it was alright back then.. racism/slavery was tolerated because people had no choice but we have a choice now.. people mourning over loss of their beloved movies can always buy it for their personal collection..and they can erect statues of whoever they want in their own personal spaces...

many things we are enjoying now was because of blood and tears of slaves whose descendants are still facing prejudice and intergenerational trauma..

Goodness, all this is such a load of tosh! One trying to outdo another.

Gone with the Wind was a product of its time. While we're at it, MLK was a womanizer as well. Let's MeToo him.

They shouldn't ban it/remove it, it's actually a good way to learn from the past & our mistakes.

I read this article years ago b/c this topic comes up every few years but they do a good job explaining it:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/act-four/wp/2015/07/01/why-we-should-keep-reading-gone-with-the-wind/

As much as I disagree strongly with the portrayal's of blacks on the film, it after captures the attitudes of the Southern rich white folks accurately and a lot of what they felt was"morally right" stems from religion. I personally feel Birth of Nation is 100X worst than GWTW.

That being said, we definitely need to remove confederate flags, statues of slave traders and owners first before we go after fictional work. Statues/flags commemorate these figures, whereas fiction is just a take on history with sometimes a bias one way or the way.
