Chapter: 9 Moments

ETF Conference room.

~After 1 week~

The whole ETF is present at the conference hall about 30 minutes later Arjun also joined them after a week of break. Everyone is happy to see him and he is looking fine without any injury and most importantly, he is calm like the dead sea. But one person couldn't stop himself from staring him suspiciously, this made Arjun roll his eyes annoyingly.

"Stop staring at me! , I'm not Ayesha!" Arjun asked that person making Ayesha red in shy.

"How is your parents Rawte?" Rathod asked him in biased tone making Arjun to flinch.

"Yeah, they are doing good!" Arjun muttered, but not meeting Rathod's eyes.

Arjun turned on his heels and walking towards his cabin, at the same time Rathod gets up from his chair and stand in front of Arjun with folded hands.

"Why did you switch off your mobile entire week?" Rathod questioned him suspiciously.

"Because I don't want anyone disturbing me during my stay in New York!" Arjun lied smoothly.

"What a miracle? The great ACP Rawte switched off his mobile, cause he didn't want anyone to disturb him during his holidays! Am I dreaming?" Rathod said sarcastically.
"Please Sam"

Arjun tried to divert the topic, cause of his interrogation, but he didn't notice calling out ETF chief as 'Sam' like the olden days. The entire team looked at them with an open mouth when Arjun has addressed their senior with a first name.Rathod looked at him in shock for a min, but Arjun composed himself and changed his words tactfully.

"I meant Rathod sir, If you have still doubts lingered in your mind about my travel to New York, you can get verified at the airport.!" Arjun replied proudly thinking about the setup he did before leaving for Dehradun.
"I very well know that you would have set up something before leaving, at least this much I understood you Rawte.!" Rathod replied dejectedly.

"If you say so, I don't have any problem, and I have some work" Arjun smirked and moved to his cabin.Rathod look at Arjun's moving figure with confusion.
"I will find your secrets soon Arjun" Rathod muttered under his breath determinedly.

~At Evening~

All are in the conference room after solving the murder case in which the ex-husband murdered his first wife when she found love in another man after divorce. The case was quite an easy one, but the emotions were high and the way that woman was murdered was disgusting.
Sree dialled Riya's number to talk cause after that day she never called him except WhatsApp messages. He thought to call her when Arjun is present. She picked his call in the second ring.

"Hi, guys" Riya replied happily.

Sree turned on the speaker, so that everyone could talk to her easily. At the same time, he didn't inform Riya about Arjun's present in the conference room.

"Hey Riya, How are you? Does the wound gets healed?" Sree questioned her worryingly.

Everyone looked at him when he was talking to Riya except Arjun, he is busy sipping cutting-chai, which was given by Bablu when they returned from the crime spot.

"Sree, You had asked the same question yesterday night in a message, just in one day miracle won't happen!" Riya rolled her eyes about Sree's over-concern.
"I knew Ri, how was your day?" Sree asked her.

"It was good and what is the case today?" Riya questioned him. To divert her confusing mind.

She really wants to ask about Arjun and is he back to the office? , but she kept her mouth zipped.

"Ex-husband murdered his wife when she fell in love with another man after divorce" Chotu replied her disgustingly thinking about the man.

"I didn't understand he claimed that he loves her, but how could he kill her in the name of love?" Liza asked no one in particular.

"If he would have loved her truly, he would have let her go and live her life happily. Love is letting go of someone, even when you love them immensely. He didn't love her, it was just his ego that killed her when she finally moved in her life with someone else." Riya blurted out not realizing the mobile is in the speaker.

The shock would be an underestimated word to say after listening to Riya's talk, because the exact same lines were said by Arjun to the murderer before arresting him.

Though Arjun is sitting inside the room, he is sitting with a blank expression. Others think that he is not listening to the conversation they are having with Riya, but he only knows his ears on the conversation from the moment Sree called her.
Silence prevailed in the room for a few secs, they don't know whether to reply or keep silent.

Riya could feel the blunder she created by voicing out her feelings in front of everyone, To change the topic she asked Sree about the software.

"Sree, what happened to,'Kill switch activation software'? When will you give detailed information about it? Why it is taking so long?" Riya questioned him for the delay, he is taking to provide information.

Arjun eyes wide and ears are sharp to listen to her when she mentioned that software.

"Riya, where do you got the software? What is the name?" Sree thought for some moment to recall the software name.

Kill activation switch software and how it works for human" Riya said each word slowly so that he can remember the name of the software.
Arjun stood from his place and glared at Sree.

"Riya" Arjun screamed at her ragingly.

All are getting confused by Arjun's sudden anger.Riya's eyes widen when Arjun called her name no scratch that when shouted at her.

"God, what did I do now? He is screaming at a high pitched tone!" Riya murmured to herself.

"You are not going to learn that software!" Arjun ordered her with the gritted teeth.

Arjun turned his head to Sree and warned, "Sree, you are not going to provide any details of the software ! Do you understand?".
Sree meekly nodded his head looking at his clipped tone.On the other side, everyone is confused by his sudden yelling at her unnecessarily.

Riya is angry at the same time confused like a hell. This man who shouted at her while ago was the one who ordered her to stay away from him, and gave a lecture about who she should save and whom she should not.

"Excuse me? I have all the right to know everything in this world until it was copyrighted by you."Riya replied to him with an irritated tone.

She doesn't know the reason for her anger, it is because of his ignorance behavior at the hospital until today or his controlling nature to prevent learning the software.

" The software is not copyrighted by me, and Last warning you are not learning any crap software!"Arjun replied to her rudely.

Riya disconnected the call without replying to him. Arjun sees the call got disconnected, so he asked Sree to redial her number.

She disconnected the call 10 times continuously. Arjun feels like breaking the mobile into chunks, but this was Sree mobile so he refrained from doing so. He took his mobile and called her number.

The call was disconnected from her 5 to 7 times, but Arjun is not leaving the matter. Riya knew if she didn't pick the call, he would come directly from India to London to scold her.So she attended the call reluctantly.
"Riya?" Arjun shouted calling out her name.

The line was silent for a few secs.

"Do you have a plan to damage my ears?" Riya replied to him irritated, when taking away the mobile from her ears.

"Why the hell you are not answering me by when?" Arjuna asked her mirroring Riya's emotions.

"Huh, Sir was kept maunvirat last week when I expected him to talk to me at the hospital! What happens now?" Riya complained to him.

" This girl will make me mad one day!" Arjun murmured under his breath after listening to her complaints.
"Why do you want to learn that software?" Arjun directly threw the question at her.

"What software? Can you stop talking in riddles? I'm not smart like you, and I understand only simple things" Riya irritates him further to divert his mind so that he would leave the topic.

"Stop acting like innocent, you very well know about the software I'm asking about! If you don't accept this fact now, I will ask Rathod to increase the leave for 2 more weeks!" Arjun played the card safely to make her accept the truth.

Rathod looked at him murderously for using his name to threaten her.

"What? Are you mad? , When I came to talk in the office you will turn away your face, and here torturing me with questions about the software! , I can learn whatever I want to and you can't stop me.!" Riya exclaimed angrily.

She paused for a moment before continuing

"Don't dare to increase the leave, sir" Riya challenged him firmly.

He fake laughed out making her eyes pop out of the sockets.

"Try me Ms Riya! , and you stay from that software, that's final!" Arjun challenged her.

"Care to explain? , what are all the things I have to stay away from life along with 'staying away from you.?" Riya asked him daringly.

"Stop using stay away and you very well know l will do the exact opposite of it." Riya murmured to herself.

"Riya, stop testing my patience, or else ready to face the consequences!" Arjun said with finality.

"Ahhh, I hate you. Stop dictating my life, Arjun" Riya shouted out of rage.

His name is good to hear from her mouth, he felt so good, and the way her mouth rolled out his name without any hurdle like she practiced calling out his name by years.

Riya realized that she called out his name without sir. To cover up the act she added, "Arjun Sir..."

It was too late, everyone in the conference heard her talk, including the person whom she called out authoritatively like he is her to call.

"I knew, and I will make sure you will hate me more, "Arjun smirked at the end of the conversation.
He disconnected the call before hearing her reply.Everyone in the room looks at Arjun with open mouth and they were thinking about the conversation between Ariya.
Before leaving the room Arjun glanced at Sree and said," If Riya gets hands-on that software, you will face my wrath Sree, and I will transfer you a place like, where you can't even find a human, forget about water and food" Arjun literally warned him for his life.

Sree gulps down before replying to Arjun, I understood Sir, I will make sure that she won't get to know a single word about that software".
Arjun nodded his head before leaving the conference room. But again this act of him alerted Rathod.

"I have to know, what is the mystery of Arjun and the software!" Rathod thought to himself.

~During 1 week~

After that heated conversation over the call between them, Arjun never communicated with her, though Sree would call her daily basis, he would leave the place whenever Sree dialled her number, He certainly doesn't want to scold her unnecessarily and the magnetic pull he feels for her getting increased just by hearing her voice.
However, no one could see that he is used to eavesdrop their conversation from his cabin and sometimes behind the conference room on the pretext of having his tea.

Riya's Return.

~At Conference Room~

Riya is rejoining office after her 2-week medical leave and Choree is happy to welcome her. It was around 9.00 AM Riya came with the biggest smile on her face showing her deep dimples. Everyone present at the table except Arjun, she started to look around the room to see a glimpse of him, but he is nowhere to see. Sree and Chotu engulfed her in a bear hug and after the greetings, they left her. Ayesha and Liza also pulled her for a girl's hug. This made Rathod smirk at Ayesha, she never makes friends easily it is almost zero friends count in Mumbai except a few of her school and college friends.

"Good Morning guys" Riya greeted them with a cheerful mood.

"Good Morning Rathod Sir, How are you?" Riya asked Rathod who is looking at the scene with a smile on his face.

"Morning! I'm good and how are you and does the wound got healed?" Rathod asked her with concern.

"I'm good sir, no pain as well" Riya informed him while searching something in her handbag, handed over the medical certificate about her health. Because if she didn't provide the certificate certain someone would stop her from doing fieldwork and irritate further would ask her to go back 'research desk'.

Rathod took the papers from her and read carefully for any precautions to be taken before joining fieldwork, but nothing that sort of written on it except 'Fit and Healthy to join fieldwork'.

Riya sat in her place with big bags and started to open the bag with a smile. She gave two parcels to Choree, separate parcels to Ayesha, Rathod, and Liza respectively.

Sree and Chotu opened the parcel together and shouted,'It is a brand new iPhone', and to Ayesha and Liza, 'Michael Kors TOTE bag' and to Rathod, it is 'Rolex watch'.

Everyone smiled at her fondly, Ayesha replied softly while looking at the gifts, she brought for everyone " It is not necessary Riya, We are happy that you are back to the office". Everyone agreed with Ayesha.

"It is a token of love, and this is from my sister and Jiju side as well, So please don't reject it" Riya hopefully asked them.
"We will take it Ri, don't worry" Choree shouted happily making others roll their eyes.

After 1 hour

Except for Rathod everyone at the conference table, But Riya is looking expectantly at Arjun cabin door to see him, it's been 1 hour she came, but he never showed up here, making her worry unnecessarily.

~At Arjun cabin~

Arjun is talking over to someone on the phone at the corner in a hushed tone. The door was closed loosely.

"What is the progress of the case Raj?" Arjun asked him.

"The sticks we found at the crime spot is Russian gelatin stick and exported to Malaysia a few weeks back. From there it was exported to India." Raj replied with the data.

"Have you identify the modem of transport from Malaysia to India? , because the Malaysian immigration is strict when it comes to illegal drugs and weapons exportation!" Arjun questioned him.

"I guess, it must be via sea route, AR, through the air, he can't export explosion sticks!" Raj reasoned his points.

"What about the fingerprint of the puff?Have you guys find the original id of the patient?" Arjun throws another question at him.Before he could listen to Raj's reply the door was pushed wide open making him jump from that place.

The scene in front of infuriated him. There Riya is standing with his cutting-chai looking intently at him.

" Hold" Arjun muttered to Raj to stay on the line and turned his head to Riya.

"Riya, how many times I told you to knock the door before entering my cabin?" Arjun screamed at her angrily.

"Sir, I knocked the door three times, you didn't reply so I thought of coming in, since the door was half-opened" Riya replied him mildly while placing the cutting-chai at his table.

Arjun sighed deeply to control his anger and mouthed," Leave Riya".

Riya's eyes lingered on him for a few seconds, and left the place stomping her feet in anger.

"Khadoos" She mutters to herself because he didn't greet her, at least he could have talked to her politely when she came to see him in the pretext of giving him tea.

~Back to Arjun Cabin~

"What happened AR? Who is the poor soul you are shouting at?" Raj questioned him playfully.

"Nothing, it was just my sub-ordinate! What happened to the forensic report?" Arjun inquired him.

"The fingerprint is not matching with the criminal records, but we found the address of the patient.!" Raj replied to him.
"Where is he now?" Arjun asked him hurriedly.

"Near Tamilnadu and Kerala border and I'm going to Kerala personally investigate this.!" Raj said determinedly.

"That's a good idea, but be careful. Once you find him, check for any symbol or tattoo present at the nape of his neck!" Arjun instructed him.

"Yeah, I will do that!" Raj responded back to him before winding off the call.

Arjun tiringly runs hands to his hair to calm down his raging heart. Suddenly his eyes land on the teacup, which was covered with the lid to prevent flies entering into it. He took the tea cup and gulps down the drink in a few sips. His mind and heart starts the war of going outside to see her or stay inside the cabin to concentrate on the pending files. Eventually, his heart won so he moved to the conference room to see her.

At Conference room

Everyone present in the room and doing their paperwork without gossiping much to his surprise, because Rathod also seated among with them. He joined them silently, everyone's face was glowing happily like they won lottery except ETF chief.He looked at them confusingly for their odd behavior while completing the paperwork, instantly his eyes land on the gift boxes on the corner of the conference room and Choree is holding a brand new iPhone and he could fathom who gifted this to the entire team.

He scowled suddenly, because when Riya came to his cabin she came empty-handed except his cutting-chai.

~Arjun's POV~

Is she really forgets to give me gifts? Or I'm over imagining things out of my stress? If she can give gifts to everyone, why not me then? It was you always scold her and it was you always give a lecture about 'Stay away' from you, when she is following that, what is your problem Arjun?.

I should stay away from this girl, huh this girl is driving me nuts! When are you started showing interest in gifts Arjun? See I told you this girl messes with everyone's mind, and she perfectly messed your mind as well.!

Why you are feeling bad if she didn't give you a gift? Arjun's heart asked.

Instead of asking her to stay away from you, you should stay from her Arjun! His mind retorted his heart.

Arjun looked at Riya from his corner of eyes, she is busy burying her head at the papers. He didn't know why it felt bad when she is not looking at him. On the other side, Riya is ignoring Arjun like some kinda disease making his mood foul.

The entire team can see the cold war between them, but they remained silent, if they are mature enough, they would solve their differences and behave like two professional people.

Around 3 PM in the evening

~ETF Canteen~

Rathod went to the commissioner's office for some meeting with higher officials, and Arjun is in his cabin after Riya ignoring.

It's a second break for Riya, Choree, Ayesha and Liza, because two heads of the ETF are not seen around, and they are taking advantage of the time perfectly, otherwise free day like this is next to impossible.
"Let's have a snack!" Chotu asked them dreamily while thinking about the food.

"You just had lunch!" Liza told him confusingly.

"He is always hungry!" Riya and Sree replied her laughingly.

Chotu didn't mind their teasing as usual, ordered a snack from the canteen. Everyone looked at him amused. Sree, Ayesha and Liza joined with him for ordering snacks. Ayesha turned her head to Riya before leaving, "Do you want something Riya?".

" No, actually except Coffee!" Riya replied while typing away something on her mobile.

After 20 mins they came with the snacks, almost instantly Chotu gulping down the sandwiches making others to giggle.

In this, they didn't notice one more person has come from the cabin to order food. Arjun eyed them for a few mins before ordering food.

"Kaka, Can I get a meal? Or something edible for lunch?" Arjuna asked, looking at the canteen man.
"No Arjun Sir, Sandwiches only available now!" Kaka replied sadly.

"It's okay, it goes with me and can you prepare corn double egg sandwich with egg omelette?" Arjun asked him softly, not caring about the full meal.

"Yeah, Why not, Arjun Sir? , 15 mins your order would be ready!" Kaka replied happily.

Because this man never saw him having his full meal on time, once in a Blue Moon he would come and order food himself that too mostly at the odd hour of the day, like 3.00 PM or 4.00 PM.

Arjun nodded his head and made himself comfortable on the corner table at the table not joining his team. Something made him sit alone, certainly, he doesn't want to intervene the free time of his juniors joining them uninvited.

Riya's coffee is long forgotten looking at Arjun, she felt bad for him, but couldn't voice out too. She keeps on looking at him with the corner of her eyes until he finishes the entire sandwich and omelette. She sighed happily when he had completed not so full lunch, but anyway he had something.
"Your coffee" Sree indicated the untouched coffee.

She hurriedly consumed the entire liquor making others to look at her weirdly.

Around 6.30 PM

During the entire day, Arjun and Riya avoided talking to each other.

Arjun is angry, but the reasons unknown to himself, he didn't know the reason for his furious mode either he is angry that she didn't gift him anything or she is keeping a distance from him the entire day.

Whereas Riya is silent, because she doesn't want to disturb him more, already he looked stressed about something, and if she does anything this might infuriate his ferocious mood to the peak.

~Arjun cabin~

Arjun enters his cabin after winding off some calls. When he moved to his chair, he notices some glass box is kept on the table. He looked here and there to see if someone is noticing him, especially Riya, cause he could fathom who kept the box at his table when he was away.

On the other side of Arjun's cabin, Riya hides behind the wall when Arjun started to look around before taking the glass box.

Arjun carefully picks up the box from the table and opened it, it is a beautiful platinum men Kada. It looks like the size of the Kada would fit him perfectly, it looks like it was made for him only.

He took the Kada and watch it closely to identify the intricate designs on it. There is something written in the plain Kada.

"ARJUN * The Warrior*

His name is written on it with capital letters next to it the two words written in italic letters. His lips twitched upward looking the personalized gift of hers. He gently placed the Kada inside the glass box and placed the box in the laptop bag to prevent the box from damages.
Riya eyes twinkled with happiness when Arjun kept the box carefully in the bag. She didn't give the box directly because she knew his behavior if she gives him the box personally to him, he would have probably thrown the box outside or would have refused her bluntly without any second thoughts. She followed his reverse technology and made him tremble a bit to think about her odd behavior and she attained it too.

After ETF car Parking.

Everyone is leaving for the day, Riya and Liza are waiting at the parking lot for Choree. At the same time, Arjun appeared to them. Both of them look at each other for a few secs before leaving in respective cars.
Arjun knew that Riya gave him a Kada and Riya knew that he took it. Both are acting like the kind of activity never transpired between them.

Choree and Riya Car drive

Riya, Choree, and Liza moved in one car. They were talking about Riya's stay in London and sudden climate changes, until Liza dropped off at her home.

Riya is silent for a few mins before looking at her friends.

" I need your help guys!" Riya asked them hopefully.

"Madam, you are not done with us yet! Started again!" Sree asked her impolitely thinking about the dangers it would bring.

"RI, already Sree has landed in the problem because of that software. Please for a few days keep quiet before making us dwell in the forest for helping you!"Chotu requested her pleadingly.
" Guys, please!" Riya looked at them innocently.

"Don't give us this puppy look and tell us already!" Sree looked at her for demands.

"I'm planning to cook for everyone tomorrow " Riya replied humbly.

"So? Do you want us to cook with you?" Sree asked her confusingly.

"Nope, You have to post in Whatsapp group that tomorrow you are bringing lunch from home because of your parents anniversary." Riya blurted out looking at Sree.

"What is the problem if you tell them that you are bringing food for everyone?" Chotu questioned her more confusingly.
"Do what say guys and Chotu you are going to help me in tasting the food" Riya ordered them in an affirmative tone.

"Sure, we will help you!" Chotu agreed with her instantly after hearing the task she has given him, making Sree agree with him.

" Sharp at 6 AM we will meet at my home, and Sree, don't forget to drop the message in the group" Riya instructed them when getting down at her Apartments.Choree looking at her weirdly for the chilly demand, she is making them perform.

Next morning at 6.00 AM in Riya's Apartment.

Riya is making all kinds of Maharashtrian cuisine, Choree looking at her intently for the choices of the food she is making. Now the cloud of doubts is clear to see the clear picture to whom she is making food.

Chotu wants to ask the reason for the sudden lunch preparation for the team, but Sree stopped him showing his eyes.

It was around 7.10 AM, Chotu tasted all the foods and gave the feedback, Once she was satisfied with the outcome, she started to pack the food in lunch boxes.

At 7.30 AM, she gave the lunch basket to Sree and said, "Sree bring the food directly to the office and I will get ready and come."

"Sure, we know for whom you are making this much effort! We hope this would make you happy at least " Sree muttered looking at her.

Riya gave them a polite smile, and Choree left her home.

At ETF conference room.

Rathod, Ayesha, Liza are sitting and they saw Choree entering the office with a big lunch basket. They greeted everyone, and kept the basket in the closet.

"What special today Sree? You brought lunch for everyone!" Ayesha questioned him unsettlingly.
Before he could reply Riya joined them with a smile. Ayesha raised her eyebrows for the answer.
" Today My parents marriage Anniversary" Sree responded to her politely.

His interrogation was cut short by Arjun arrival and Rathod's ringing mobile to announce a new case.

It was a missing case of famous industrialist Mr.Ajay Shah and they have to leave office almost instantly.

Around 2.30 PM

~At ETF Canteen~

They found the culprit who had happened to be his own son who had kidnapped him for the share in the company. Riya looked at Sree to invite everyone for lunch.

"Shall we have lunch now? I brought the food already!" Sree questioned them expectantly.

"Yeah, sure!" Everyone voiced out ready for lunch except Arjun.

"Sir, you also join us, please "Sree literally pleaded him for his friend.

Arjun nodded his head, and they all moved to the canteen and Ladies has started to open the boxes to serve everyone.

Ayesha could see 90% of the dishes are Maharashtrian cuisine, she throws a suspicious glance at Riya who is busy with unpacking all the boxes.

At last, they served food everyone and started to have their own meal. Riya is looking at Arjun who relishing the food happily, he almost tasted all the cuisines, makes her smile inwardly.

Arjun emptied the plate within a few seconds, he hasn't given the bytes of bitter gourd dish to anyone, not even the food lover Chotu, who looked at him pleadingly to share the dish but he never cared about it.

Riya hasn't touched her food, until Sree nudged her shoulders to concentrate on the food rather than Arjun. She quietly took the morsel from her plate. Ayesha is watching her from the moment she sat next to Sree, and the way she is watching Arjun in the corner of the eyes.

After some time everyone completed their tasty food, before leaving the place everyone thanked Sree.

" Thanks, Sree, the food was tasty," Arjun said to Sree, but his eyes lingered at Riya.

Riya looked down in embarrassment. She side hugged Choree and mumbled, "Thank you so much Sree and Chotu".
"If it's made you happy! We are ready to dwell in the forest " Sree replied dramatically.

She slapped his shoulder and muttered, "Dramebaaz".

The trio laughed out. Riya started to collect the boxes, and arranged them properly before keeping inside the box. At the same time, Ayesha entered the canteen and indicated Choree to leave the place quietly.

Once they were out of her sight Ayesha move towards to Riya who is picking up the boxes. She started to help her by collecting the box in the corner, making Riya nervous out of her wits.

" The food was delicious, and You made it for Arjun, right Riya!" Ayesha directly asked her doubts without beating around the bush.

Riya looked at her shockingly, but composed herself.

"You are mistaken Mam, I didn't cook the food!" Riya nervously replied while closing the box.

"Oh, I didn't know that Sree is a Maharashtrian! ,and I could see all the Arjun sir's favorite dishes at the table" Ayesha reasoned back.

She paused for a moment and continued, "I knew you cooked the food, and If you didn't cook the food for him, why did you leave your food untouched till Arjun finishes his lunch? Until Sree asked you to eat!"

Riya is silent, not uttering a single word. Ayesha turned her heels to move from that place, not before uttering these words.
"Whenever or wherever if you feel something for that man or you thought to voice out your true feelings for him! Tell me, I will be always ready to hear from you!" .

Riya looked at Ayesha surprisingly .
