ok so bollywood is warming up to this idea....now there will be a huge war between exhibitors vs producers/distributors.
hindi cinema used to release video cassettes of new movies on the day of the release in nineties. how was that viable ?

That was piracy.
not piracy. master prints used to release on same day. sorry buddyyou are not informed properly.
Im still confused about how they will earn money? If a film has been shot to release on the big screen won’t it lose money by releasing online

I mean most Vidya Balan films don’t earn money as it is 🤣

That's what I meant. It wasn't viable due to piracy coz the VHS tapes released on the same day would be copied and pirated leading to producers incurring loss. So after a while the producers stopped releasing master prints on VHS. Only in theatres.
Good that it is releasing online.. 🥳 Can't wait to watch Vidya's movie after a very long time.. I missed her a lot on-screen..

ok but you were not answering to the point. while the video cassettes were releasing on the same date how come the theatres survived ?

Theatres survived because the producers stopped releasing VHS. They were incurring losses in theatres coz no one was coming to watch in cinema halls as VHS were easily getting pirated. So the only way theatres survived was that the producers stopped printing tapes. And that's when VHS tapes disappeared altogether from the market along with the advent of floppy discs and cds.
