yes, avigan..tbh, they should try it in other countries also like they did for remdesivir to see whether it works or not..which is why i really dislike the whole political interference...i heard there is pressure on fda for drugs like these to be tested besides remdesivir...possibly see whether it can be paired with another codrug because it is just reducing time recovery......i hope they continue their best w/o Donald duck being a gyani baba
That's a good point....thanks for bringing that in....agree we need more definitive treatments what we believe is emerging over the time...more drugs have been tested now...this virus/at least this form is around 16 weeks old for us....time is crucial...Remdesivir got emergency approval for usage in very specific patients in severe conditions....Gilead is donating this drug for now...so cost should not be a matter of concern for the time being...it has been targeted and studied for several years with the similar types of viruses what adds to its acceptability...
I believe you're trying to mention Favipiravir, which Fujifilm sells under the brand name Avigan. That trial is still ongoing and the number of enrollment so far has been way less. As this is from Japan, they have a separate regulatory and approval system beyond our own to follow before we can use it on a regular basis. Japan started moving it now so hoping to see improvement on that side as well.
Tocilizumab and few other drugs are already in use as secondary therapy for this treatment in many hospital systems as per our understanding.
