Are you really gonna use an actor of Sonakshi's calibre to portray probably the most loved actress of India? Sonakshi might be able to fit the looks department but she is just gonna ruin it with her acting talent ( or lack of it).

No one from current lot honestly.

Madhuri Dixit in her younger days would be the perfect Madhubala. She would be too old today because sadly Madhubala only lived for 36 years.

Tripti Dimri ( laila -majnu) *might* be able to pull it off. But then I guess she is not mainstream enough for such a huge project.

Madhuri would have been perfect for this role if it was made during her prime.

I'd never have thought of Sonakshi for this role. But. She could do a decent job. Please let's not forget that Sonakshi was AMAZING in Lootera. And yes, Madhubala was NOT the most talented actress of her generation. What were her best performances - Mughal-E-Azam, Mr. & Mrs '55, Mahal, Barsaat Ki Raat? - I loved her in all those but her skill was limited. Sonakshi is more than competent.

Yes same again on Dilip Kumar and Madhubala's father. Deepika is tall and slender in contrast to Madhubala. Similar reasons make Hrithik odd choice for Kishore Kumar.
