This sadness is a temporary phase. Ishita can never stay sad for long. And she won't let Raman stay sad either. There will be few hiccups here and there but now we are heading towards the epic Ishra romance. And thats my favorite part of this story. My fingers are aching to type their love moments. So hold tight. :)
Update 19:
(Some back ground on Monica and Ishita)
Monica is the daughter of a distant relative of Ishita's mother Madhavi. During her early twenties, she was very pretty and ambitious. But belonged to a poor family. Her birth name was Malini. She always dreamed of a rich life and in her teenage years changed her name to Monica to make it sound cool so that she can find a rich husband! (Silly woman!) But her poor parents couldn't manage to find a rich husband for her and she was married off to an honest and simple clerk in govt. office. She was not happy with her ordinary life and used to torture her husband everyday. One day he got so frustrated of her constant verbal abuses that he committed suicide. Monica had a 15 year old daughter Vandita at that time. Her in-law's kicked her out of their house. She had no choice apart from going back to her parents house. Madhavi was a kind lady. When she found out about Monica's condition, she invited her to live temporarily with her in London so that she can help her get some education and become self-sufficient. Madhavi herself was well educated. She had double Master's in Applied Mathematics and Statistics.(Now you know where Ishita got her brains from!)
Monica immediately agreed as she knew Madhavi's was well-off and very naive. She made a wicked plan to trap Viswa and kick Madhavi out of the house. In an unexpected turn of events, Madhavi died after some time due to heart failure and Viswa had to marry Monica due to social obligations.
Viswa loved Madhavi a lot and after her death he buried himself in work. But he made sure Ishita is happy by spending all the money he could to fulfill her wishes. After Madhavi's death, Kaveri Devi's health deteriorated fast and she was unable to look after Ishita.
Ishita who was only 14 years old at the time of her mother's death was struggling alone with the worst pain of her life. That's when she developed claustrophobia. When she needed someone, she found herself alone. She longed for her father's love but Viswa was not able to give her time as he was lost in his own grief. He forgot that his daughter needs his love, his comfort, not his money. Ishita didn't get any love from her step mother because she was jealous of her. Kaveri Devi was bedridden and sleeping under sedation most of the time to relieve her pain and other effects of her sickness.
Viswa used to tell Monica that he loves Ishu the most because she reminds him of Madhavi. That made Monica more and more bitter towards Ishita. She increasingly began to hate her everyday because she herself wanted to be the first priority in Viswa's life.
She tried to create a rift between father and daughter but didn't succeed much.
Ishita was extremely pretty and very intelligent. Monica's own daughter's Vandita and Mihika were not that pretty and bright. This made her so jealous of her that she could have killed her if she had the opportunity. She did her level best to break her self-esteem but she survived against all odds.
Ishita grew up to be a strong and independent woman. But she was very soft and sensitive from inside. She missed the love her mother showered on her and always longed for someone to fill that void in her life. That made her very compassionate. One of the reasons why she was instantly attached to Ruhi. She knew the pain of growing up without Mother's love. Since she had no dearth of money, she started two NGO's to make abandoned kids and old people feel like they belong to someone, to somewhere. There was no one to pamper her, so she found happiness in making others happy. No one knew that even after 12 years of her mother's death she was still hurting. Her pain was deep but she felt the burden was hers, and hers alone to keep. She faked her way and mastered pretending. She was kind and loving just like her mother. The first to help anyone in need. The pain remained buried in her heart. But deep down she always wanted to belong to someone. Wished for someone to lean on and a shoulder to cry on. To have someone who can embrace her and tell her that she is not alone. Someone who will do anything for her happiness.
Fast forward present time:
Monica thought she succeeded in ruining Ishita's life by getting her married off to a rude and insensitive middle class man. She was very happy when she found out that Ishita used the Iyer family card for her expenses. Monica assumed that Ishita's in-laws and husband didn't care for her and thats why she was left to fend for herself. This was a golden opportunity to satisfy her wicked soul who always wanted to break Ishita's confidence and embarrass her. Personally she had nothing against Raman or his family. She only wanted to hurt Ishita's feelings. She wanted the satisfaction of seeing her in pain, sufferings and humiliation.(Sadist woman!)

Toshi ji was happy to see Monica and began talking to her. Ishita left for few mins to check on Ruhi. Monica was very cordial with Bhalla family members and gave them a warm welcome. She was expert in putting on a convincing charade.
At that time, Raman received a call from work and went to the patio to take the call.
When Raman was done with his call, he wanted to freshen up a little before the dinner. He was coming straight from a work meeting and was feeling a bit tired.
He asked one of the house-help for directions to the washroom.
The house-help thought he is the son-in-law of the family so he would be comfortable in Ishita's room. He walked him over to her room and left.
As Raman stepped in, he was surprised by the splendor of her room. It was a huge room tastefully decorated. Raman looked around and his gaze stopped at her huge king size round shaped bed. An image of Ishita sleeping on a little couch in his bedroom flashed in front of his eyes.
He felt heavy in his heart.
Next his eyes spotted a book lying on the night lamp table beside her bed.
He picked it up and looked at it's cover.
** "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks.**
He raised his eyebrows thinking why he is not surprised that she reads this kind of novels. By now he knew she is a hopeless romantic.
There was a photo inside the book used as bookmark. He then turned to the page where the book mark was attached.
"They didn't agree on much. In fact, they didn't agree on anything. They fought all the time and challenged each other every day. But despite their differences, they had one important thing in common. They were crazy about each other."
He smiled reading those lines and turned the photo used as bookmark.
His eyes widened as he looked at the man in the photo.
It was him!
He wondered what she thinks of him or how much she knows about him! Does she know everything about him!
He replaced the photo and put the book back. He turned and walked into the washroom.
The other side of the wash room opens into a huge walk-in closet. He couldn't resist the curiosity to peep into her closet space. He stepped in.
It was like a mini-boutique filled with some of the most expensive clothing brands and fashion brands. He found himself surrounded by hundreds of beautiful dresses. There were almost 500 pairs of shoes in racks. On top shelf almost 200 designer bags were lined up next to each other.
He came back into the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror.
"Ishita had a life which Shagun left him for."
His mother's word echoed in his ears.
A pang of guilt swept in him. He turned on the tap and splashed cold water on his face. That felt nice. He could ignore the pool of emotions if he could keep doing that. That cool made him stop thinking about other things. He just wanted to think about the cold water on his face. Everything else was too stifling.
He decided to go back to the main hall area.
In the meantime back in the main hall area, Monica signaled Ishita to come with her. Monica and Ishita walked into her bedroom.
Ishita's Bedroom
Monica(pointing at the stuff lying around) - Ishita, You miss all these.. right? This lavish life style?
Ishita- Mom, why do you ask?
Raman inside the washroom was about to open the door when he heard Monica's voice. The next voice was of Ishita's. He was already feeling awkward and didn't want to talk to anybody, especially Ishita. So he decided to stay inside until they leave.
Monica- Really? Now you will pretend as if you didn't do anything! I know it's not easy to quit luxury habits. And thats why you are trying to do whatever you could to fill this void in your life.
Ishita- Mom, I am still not sure what you are talking about.
Monica- I am talking about the 2.5 lakhs you spent on a credit card which belongs to my husband. You spent all that money purely for your personal expenses. You thought I wouldn't find out!
How can you be so shameless. You are married now. You are not a Iyer anymore. But still want to live a Iyer life? That middle class husband of yours cannot afford your expensive lifestyle and thats why you are coming after our money. Did he put you upto this? He must be thinking that he married a girl from a rich family and now his life is settled. He can live comfortably for the rest of his life leeching money off of your parents. Isn't it?
Raman who could hear every single word was shocked and embarrassed. He was not sure what to make of the situation. In a state of a complete perplexity, all he knew that his anger has gone through the roof at the stupidity of his wife who tarnished his reputation in front of his in-laws. He was so agitated, he could barely think straight .
Raman's internal monologue- She is such an idiot. If she needed anything, why didn't she ask me? Even if I was not around she could have asked Mummy or asked me to come and pay her bills! What was so important that it couldn't wait and she had to use her father's card? I wish I could take her home right now and ask why she chose to embarrass me like this?
Back in the room Ishita was mortified listening to the cruel world's of her step mother. She was least worried about her own insult and more petrified thinking that because of her mistake, Monica got the opportunity to trash her husband. The husband, whom she held in high regards, who was her pride, who was the kindest and most dignified man she has ever met. His name was dragged in the mire with hers and she was responsible for that. Monica was not completely wrong. She did spend that money for her personal use as buying gifts for her parental family was her responsibility. She was married. It was not appropriate to use her father's money. She was so appalled, she could barely speak.
Ishita- Mom, please don't talk like that about Raman. He is not the man you think he is. He is not that kind of guy. Whatever happened today is all my fault. He has no knowledge of this. He didn't even know who I was before marriage.
Monica knew exactly how to push all her buttons.
Monica- Aha! So you are saying he didn't know you are Viswanathan Iyer's daughter! Bullshit! No one's that naive.
Ishita didn't want Monica to know what is going on in her marital life. That her husband didn't even know who he married until the wedding night because he couldn't care less about her or this marriage...all these details were simply too embarrassing to share.
Ishita- I know you'll find that hard to believe but thats the truth. So please keep him out of this.
And I am very sorry for using your card. I made a mistake. I assure you, this will never happen again.
Monica- You think I will believe your made-up stories!
Do you have any idea how much I despise you. I always hated you and wanted to get rid of you. Finally I got the a chance to dispose you off to a miserable life. I very well knew that you will find no happiness in that poor house with that ill-tempered, second-hand husband of yours.
I wanted you to suffer the rest of your life. And I guess I got the job done. Look at you! Dressed in all cheap clothes.
Ishita- Mom, I know you never loved me. And I don't know why you hate me so much but I always respected you as my mother. I always looked up to you to love me like you love Vandu Akka and Mihika. I never wish you ill. I am not after Appa's money. Believe me. Everything belongs to you and will stay like that only. I do not want anything from you.
Monica - If you think you can fool me with your sweet talks then you are sorely mistaken. I know this is how you keep your father under your thumb. Viswa will do anything for you and I hate that.
Anyways, now listen to me. I will forgive you this one time. And consider this is as my first and last warning. Today we are talking in private. But if you ever think of extracting even a penny from your father, I will not spare you.
So stay clear of the Iyer Mansion and Iyer Money. Don't you dare forget where you belong now.
Ishita- Mom, ...
Paatti- Who belongs where Monica?
Ishita was about to say something when Paatti walked into the room.
Monica was surprised to see her mother-in-law.
Paatti had seen saw Ishita going upstairs with Monica. She knew how Monica was and doubted her intentions. So she came upstairs to check on Ishita.
Ishita- Paatti, its nothing . You please go and attend Raman and my in-laws. I will be down in a minute.
Paatti- Viswa, Bala and Vandu are attending everyone. So don't worry about them. I am not going anywhere until you tell me what you two are talking about.
Monica- Maa, I was just telling Ishita how to settle in her new life. She is married now and should start adjusting with Bhalla's. I know they are not well-off but she herself chose to marry that guy. No one forced her into this marriage. So she should own up to her mistakes. I know for a fact that she is not happy there. Today only she spent 2.5 lakhs on one of my credit cards. The amount is not a problem for me, Ishita's attitude is. She cannot keep coming to us for money.
I don't think its fair that we pay Ishita's bills. Vandita never asked for a penny ever. Then why Ishita would. She should learn how to live within her means. Her destiny is already sealed for time and eternity.
Paatti- You are nobody to judge whether she is happy with her husband or not. And as far as spending on a card goes, she has all the rights to do so. Let me enlighten you as I am sure Viswa hasn't made you aware of the fact that Ishu now holds 50 percent share of his company. Viswa had made Madhavi the part owner of his company. And Madhavi made sure that all her share goes to Ishu when she turns 25. So Ishu is part owner of Iyer Capitals for almost a year now. She just doesn't know it. You thought Madhavi was naive. She's twice the women that you are. She was so kind to you, gave you shelter and this is how you repay her. By insulting her daughter.
Ishu has all the money in the world she needs. She is free to decide whether she wants to spend her husband's money or her own.
Monica- That's not fair. Vandita and Mihika have equal rights on Viswa's company.
Paati- Fair or not, I don't care. My Ishu deserves all the happiness in the world and she will have it. And you listen to me very carefully as I am not going to repeat myself. Next time you talk to her like this, I will make Viswa aware of your venomous tongue. You know how much he loves Ishu. I am sure he won't think twice before divorcing you.
Ishu, you come with me. You mother-in-law doesn't get tired of praising you. Everyone must have been waiting for us.
Ishita was in tears. Monica was seething with anger. Paatti held Ishita's hand and headed towards dinning area. Monica also followed them fidgeting with her fingers.
Monica's internal monologue- Ishita, I will never let you see a penny of Viswa's money. If that means getting you killed then so be it.
Raman who had been listening to this entire conversation was deeply disturbed. His head was throbbing with intense headache. Suddenly all the cruel words of Shagun repeated in his mind.
"Haan, tum sirf jaan de sakte ho aur kuch nahi! Tumhare jaan dene se kya ye flat mansion ban jayega. Tumhare pyaar se mujhe wo life nahi mil sakti jiski main haqdaar hoon! Jindagi main pyaar nahi aisho-aaram jarooi hai! Aur Ashok na sirf mujhe pyaar de sakta hai balki issh duniya ka har aisho -aaram mere kadmon main bicha sakta hai"!
(All you can do is sacrifice your life for me! But your life is worth nothing to me if you cannot buy me a mansion, a extravagant lifestyle...a lavish life which I so rightfully deserve! Your love is not enough to make me a happy woman.
Love is not important to me... luxury is.
Ashok can give me all the happiness in the world and heck, he loves me too! )
A thought crossed his mind that may be Ishita didn't ask him for money because she thinks he can't afford her expenses.
And then came over him the impression that he was about to lose something very precious. But he wasn't exactly sure what it was.
He slowly unlocked the door and walked towards the hall area. His mind now occupied with a million thoughts.
He joined the rest of the family in the dining hall area. He looked at Ishita who was trying her best to avoid his gaze.
Bhalla's and Iyer's had dinner together. Paatti, Ishita and Monica acted completely normal as if nothing happened.
When Bhalla's were about to leave, Paatti and Viswa gave them so many gifts that they had no space left in their trunk. Ishita refused to take so many gifts but Vandita and Paatti didn't listen to her.
Mr. Iyer sent a separate car to deliver the remaining gifts.
Raman didn't talk during the entire drive. It was nothing unusual for the Bhalla's. From past few years, he was mostly like that only, quiet and reserved.
Raman's Bedroom
Raman was in bed with his head against the headrest and laptop in his lap. Sleep evaded him this night. His eyes were fixed at Ishita who was sleeping on the sofa.
Raman's internal monologue- Whatever happened to you today is all my fault. I should have realized this long back. Having lived a comfortable lifestyle all your life, how will you adjust to live in mediocrity! Moreover, you are a woman. A beautiful one. And all beautiful women find pleasure in materialistic things. Money is the yardstick by which they measure their success in relationships. I know this because I learned my lesson the hard way but you didn't given me an inkling that the same yardstick applies to you also! Now I don't know what to think of you. You are an enigma to me. Are you also like her?
I know have changed your life for the worst. Because of me, you moved from a mansion to an apartment. From a palatial bed to this small couch. You take such good care of my family. You love my daughter beyond words. And there is absolutely nothing I give you in return. I don't even reciprocate your feelings.
You made the mistake of marrying a broken man. You will never win me. My scars run deep within my soul. If anything, you will lose everything, including yourself.
I don't know why you chose to stick around when I gave you no reason to stay!
Anyways, I cannot deny the fact that you are my wife. You deserve a great life. I will make sure you have that kind of life which you are worthy of and you get all the happiness in the world.
You will have absolutely everything that you ever wanted, ever desired.
I am not ignorant that you want me too. But I am sorry as this is your only wish I cannot fulfill. Sorry you even want me in the first place. I can't love you, as you desire. The mere thought of love frightens me beyond reasons and I decided to steer clear of it.
I will bring the sky down to make you happy if thats what it takes but I will never be yours.
You will have everything but me!

All Ishita wanted was his love, attention and togetherness. But Raman Bhalla only wanted to give her the world. And so help him God, he would give it to her.
