And he was promoted in the show and till now he is promoted as a Michelin star chef over just a normal chef. And that's his personality. That he is just not some other chef but a Michelin star chef from India.

I was saying their identity is beyond those tags. Why not for AR Rehman we say national award winner or Padma Shri receptiont when it's written for Indian audience. In case of Vikas Khanna his restaurant in NYC got Michelin star. However there is not a single restaurant in India that has gotten Michelin star till date.

Because appearing at a dinner in honor of Trump implies that he supports him. Donald Trump is a racist, Islamophobic, xenophobic, and all around bigot who’s not even afraid to hide it. Donald Trump looks down on people who look like A.R. Rehman and I can’t imagine that he is not aware of this. Trump started his presidency with a Muslim ban and had he succeeded right away it would have expanded to more countries. A. R. Rehman probably wouldn’t have been able to get a U.S. visa if different courts didn’t get in Trumps way of his travel bans. Let’s not even get started on the crisis at the southern border of U.S. And this is just one example of all the ways Trump has been a disaster for world’s political and humanitarian climate.

A.R. Rehman appearing at this dinner has made all of these racist polices by Trump seem trivial and unimportant at best. At worst it seems like he thinks these policies are fine.

For the simple fact that an Oscar/Academy Award is more prestigious than a National Award/Padmashri because it shows that the celebrity has not limited his talent to his home country but has gone beyond and received acclaim all over the world. Oscars add weightage because they are a bigger thing than national awards which is just limited to India. It gives the talent a global reach and appeal and that is any day bigger than an award being given in the home country. Just like the Nobel Prize. Or the Pulitzer prize. Just like how National Awards in India are sometimes given to foreign national for their exemplary work in the country and that is a matter of pride for them.

Regarding India not having Michelin Star restaurants, well for that Michelin has to first start making guides for the country. India is not their market right now so it doesn't have a Michelin guide to begin with. Stars toh door ki baat hai.

Just a minor point - Trump tried to ban 7 countries who all happened to be Muslim but India and some other Muslim countries were not on the list so AR Rahman would not have been affected. But it's a slippery slope because if it had worked Trump would have tried it with more countries.

To be honest, Indians shouldn't even waste their time on Trump. In spite of him being crazy and the Republicans also acting like corrupt crooks, the US still has a healthy enough democracy that its able to limit the damage. The ban didn't work out and neither has his other anti-immigrant wishes. The only real thing he's been able to do is spread fear with ICE and go after illegal immigrants. In a way, it's sad but on the other hand, they were always illegal. They snuck into the country, don't pay income tax, and burden the health care system too. There are legal immigrants that have such a hard time getting into the US but these people flout laws and establish themselves in the country, have babies in the US, and then claim they should get to stay because their children are citizens now. So it's hard to feel sorry.

The problem isn't Rahman being seen with Trump. The problem is Rahman with Modi. He's the one that is being whitewashed by this. It makes no difference to Trump because his audience doesn't even know who Rahman is.

I really hope you don't believe winning Oscar is more prestigious than Padma Shri 🤔. But overall I agree international recognition does add weightage. West Mai recognition milna aasan nahin. White supermacy will always be a big factor. My personal opinion Oscars aren't necessarily a big thing. Nobel prize is definitely more prestigious except their peace price which is political agenda driven.

Regarding Michelin star, well it's a money making business. Once you know how the process works you really don't care about this rating. I have read many food connoisseurs not liking Michelin rating system and I guess Anthony Bourdain is also one of them.. at the of end of the day it's all about food n taste.

Obviously it is more prestigious. An international recognition is any day more rewarding than a national one. Like I mentioned earlier, it cements the position of the talent as someone who has earned global recognition and acceptance which is wayy more harder and equally more rewarding than winning something in the home country.

Reg,.Michelin stars, yes there are controversies and many people identify it as a sham but at the end of the day when the title Michelin star is attached in front of a name, none of those controversies matter. Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Rampal are still National Award winning actors. No one remembers that Sharmila was in jury during Saif's win. They only know he is a winner.

To people who knows details it does matter to them. Credibility of such recognition is lost like for national awards and Oscars as well.

Khair all awards today are bikau.

Only awards that hold any power today is "whatever's holds your interest" movie ho ya food 😅

First Bold: One of the reasons crooked Republicans, with Mitch McConnell’s leadership, are so enabling of Trump is because of all the federal judges he’s been appointing. All of them are right wing conservative McConnell approved. These are life time appointments and their decisions will affect everything from women’s rights to LGBTQ rights to even voter rights. A lot of damage has been done and can potentially continue to eat at foundations of a stable democratic state for the next whatever many decades.

Second bold: That’s a myth. According to IRS records 50-75 percent of illegals pay federal, state, and local taxes. Not to mention the way their labor forces contribute to the agriculture and food industry. If you took all undocumented immigrants and kicked them out of the U.S. it will absolutely cripple our labor and work force, and god knows how long it would take to get the country back on its feet. Undocumented immigrants contribute a lot to U.S. economy.

Third bold: Absolutely agree. I’m not as well informed on the Indian political climate but what Modi is really about seems indisputable at this point. I will however connect it to Trump. His administration’s blatant Islamophobia has definitely worked as a green light of sorts for other governments to pursue their own ethnic cleansing wishes knowing full well there won’t be any political condemnation from United States.
