If makers plan to kill MayRA or atleast one of them at the end, they did not have to kill rishi to do so. It is a dark story as and from beyhadh 1, it is expected that it may have a sad ending.

I agree with prashu re: why maya killed rishi, it probably made sense in her revenge addled mind. still it was a terrible move by CV's, they could still have told the story they wanted to tell without killing him.
