Chapter 3

She headed to the mandir, finding solace in the one entity that was always with her. Everyone in the house was either angry with her for hiding the truth or hated her for having an alleged affair with the esteemed son in law of the house. Even her sweet jiji, who knew everything about her, was angry at her for bringing out the truth, which unfortunately resulted in a rift between her and Akash jiju.

Naniji had asked her with a strict yet polite tone to stay away from Di for a few days as she will be more hurt seeing her face. Did she not realise that Khushi was equally a victim in this? That she had to suffer countless times, just for the daughter of this house? But of course not. Why would they care about an outsider who was the sole reason for their princess' pain, she thought scornfully.

It wasn't that she hated Di. No, she could never hate the lady who had accepted her when no one else had. She envied her. For having a perfect family, who loved her so much. After all, wasn't that what she always wanted? What frustrated her was the family's lack of ability to have some basic common sense. Why on earth would she have an affair with a married man, nearly twice her age? And Arnavji, he knew that Shyam was lying then why could he not have trusted her for once. Why did he have to trust a lying bast*rd who had openly accepted his "affair", and not her, who had given up living her own life for his and his happiness?

"Hello hi bye bye, phatti sadi! What are you doing here?"

Khuhshi's eyes widened with fear as she quickly turned around to face the woman who had taunted her relentlessly ever since she got married. Even though in the past month she had teamed up with mamiji in the search for her Arnavji, she still feared the taunts she would have to face from the woman who considered di to be more than a daughter.

"Mamiji, I.."

"Do you not want to eat? Are you planning to function with osmosis?"

That was not expected. Why was she not taunting her? Calling her names for ruining her beloved daughter's life?

Looking at the shocked look on Khushi's face, Manorama softened her look and stood in front of her, cupping her face in her hands.

"Did you really think I would not recognise you, Guddi?"

The walls she had built around her heart came crumbling down at the name she longed to hear. Crying, she buried herself in her Rani ma's arms, sobs wracking her tiny frame.

"Enough Guddi. You shall not cry any more. I am so sorry for all the pain I have caused you, my Guddi. I always wanted you to be my daughter-in-law and when Akash and Arnav married you and Payal, something inside me broke. My hopes of seeing my Guddi as my daughter-in-law crumbled and came out of my mouth as taunts for you both. When everyone pointed fingers at you, I didn't defend you like a mother should have. I knew you were innocent, even before I knew about you being my Guddi. I was afraid you will replace my Guddi with your innocent eyes and pure soul. How did I not realise that only my Guddi can be this pure!" They held on to each other for what felt like an eternity. Khushi held on to Manorama like a drowning person finally finding a ledge. A tiny flame of hope burned in her heart as her Rani ma held her, dropping silent kisses on her head.

"Om Prakashji! Please get the breakfast!"

Anjali's voice broke their embrace. A guilty look crossed Manorama's face as she looked at Khushi. Understanding what had happened, Khushi hid behind the pillar, making sure Anjali didn't see her.

Manorama went to the dining area and started her usual behaviour to avoid suspicion.

"Hello hi bye bye! Where are those buy-one-get-one-free daughter-in-laws? Do we have to serve ourselves now?"

"Manorama!" Came the automated response from the head of the family. It lacked its usual anger, which didn't go unnoticed by Manorama and Khushi.

DID NANIJI BLAME ME TOO? DOES SHE TOO THINK I AM HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH SHYAMJI?

She felt her heart quicken as Arnav walked down the steps. He looked around, which didn't go unnoticed by Anjali.

"She's not here. If you want her to be here, all you have to do is tell me, Chotey. Shyamji and I will have our breakfast in our room."

"No, di. I was just leaving. You have your breakfast and remember you have the doctor's appointment today."

"What about your breakfast, Chotey?"

"I'm getting late, Di. I will have something at office." Before his di could stop him, he left the house.

Arnav paced restlessly in his cabin, not understanding who to believe. On one side, his di, who had raised him as a mother. On the other side, the woman he loved. Yes, he loved her. He loved the woman who dared to ruin the life of his precious di. It was her eyes that baffled him every time. Begging him to believe in her innocence. Even this morning, there was no accusation in her eyes at what had happened last night. Instead, there was fear, as if she was expecting him to blame her for what HE had done.

He also realised that she hadn't said a word to him since last night. Not once had she tried to defend herself in front of him. She simply took in all the curses he hurled at her, as if she had accepted this as her future. Even when he told her that he was not going to divorce her, her face had no expressions, as if she had accepted her fate.

No. He had to get to the bottom of this. He had to find out the truth. Khushi had no proof for her innocence but he knew that shyam was not innocent. And he had lied in front of the family, so could it be possible that he managed to twist the truth?

"Aman!"

Thank god! Arnav brain started working.. Harvard tube light started flickering..

So, even if Arnav manages to dig in the truth, doesn't mean he will deserve Khushi. There has to be some panalty for the lack of respect and trust. More than that, Khushi deserves more love respect and trust from him and the great Raizada's.

I hope Arnav find the truth soon.

Arnav is trying to find proof, but he needs to first have an open discussion with Khushi. Where is the trust in a woman who risked her life to save you?

It's good that Khushi is not alone now... Hope Arnav finds the truth ..
