I think the reason they made Ranbir goof up with this investigation is to get Pranbir to spend more time together and develop feelings and trust. The way Prachi is willing to move heaven and earth to prove him innocent is building and growing her feelings at the same time cementing Ranbirs.

There's no confirmation on who is getting engaged but confirmed cameo for groom has been casted. Ranbir defo appeared to be wiping away tears

Oh yes because even sarita was saying to shahana that she saw something in prachi's eyes for ranbir in the rain scene, and even we felt prachi looked attracted to him in that moment too. OMG that was the thing that will happen that nobody had expected that the ice-cream man was saying in reference to the rain.... the start of prachi falling for ranbir We didn't expect right now either, but it started from the rain scene where she had her first sign of attraction for him.

Sarita ji was mentioning catnering today so maybe Prachi goes with catnering while Ranbir goes hiding and Maya insults Prachi but Ranbir couldn't do anything because he needs to hide and then he imagines this scene i think.
