There’s no uniform Hindu ritual, it could be different in different states and between communities. So this is not a valid marriage in a legal sense, but it could be seen as one otherwise. If you know Hindu Puranas/mythology, there’s something called a gandharva vivaah, basically the boy and girl decide to get married without anybody’s permission or presence. An example from mythology, shakuntala and Dushyant. I don’t have the time to spare now to look it up, but a dear friend of mine (indi52) who has written some of the most fantastic takes on ipk epis, I remember her writing once how this marriage of Arnav and Khushi’s could be seen as a gandharva one! You could look up her index or the blast from the past threads if you’re interested.
Here’s the question arises whether Khushi had consented from her heart.
in Kerala, Christians tie the thaali (mangalsutra) as part of wedding ceremony. I don’t know if it’s there in other parts of India, but that’s not there in a western sense as Christian tradition. We are a syncretic culture, and pop culture of course takes dramatic license to the extremes in showing things, illogical as it is many a time😆
