Chapter Four- Bicycle Ride!

“This is such a nice bicycle!”

Khushi screamed in extreme happiness as she rode on the small vehicle as if flying away with the wave of cool wind. She took two rounds of the park and then stopped in front of Arnav, who wasn’t very much pleased at the moment. While his friend loved it, he didn’t like riding bicycles…. At all! Reason? Once he fell off from bicycle while riding, and since then there was a fear within him that refrained him from riding that vehicle anymore.

“But why, Arnav? Come on, it’s so much fun!”

No matter how many times the chirpy girl tried to get him on board, Arnav adamantly refused to listen to her, and walked away to sit on the near by bench, with his hands folded across his chest and his face clearly depicting sheer annoyance. Ugh, why did he ever offer Khushi to ride his bicycle?

“Arnav is afraid of riding bicycles…..Because he doesn’t know how to ride it!”

Khushi instantly looked up to see Ruhan standing there, mocking Arnav and laughing loudly at him. This infuriated her the very next second, as she glared angrily at him…. Damn, she wanted to punch him hard in the face for laughing at her best friend. How dare he?

“Go away!”

She heard Arnav yell in anger, as he was way too upset with Ruhan’s mocking words. Khushi looked at her friend a bit fearfully…. She obviously loved to annoy the crap out of him, but when someone else did it and made fun of him on top of all, she simply hated that. While the nasty kid still stood there repeating the same words, the little Khushi mentally picked up Arnav’s bicycle and threw it on him already! She decided to teach the nasty and arrogant Ruhan a lesson.

“Listen Arnav. Why are you sad? He is talking nonsense.” Khushi walked up to cheer up her friend. “You know, Ruhan can't even start riding the cycle on his own? His sister will always hold him and then he will slowly start riding. He says, ‘Didi, don't leave me otherwise I will fall.’ and then he starts crying as soon as his sister leaves him, leading him to fall down. You know once he fell on Raju's dog and it chased him in the entire colony.”

Khushi laughed gleefully as she finished speaking, making him also chuckle at Ruhan. However, Ruhan was too infuriated with the way she taunted him and wanted to push her down on the ground like he always did to get back at her.

“How dare you taunt my brother?” Rishika, Ruhan's sister, who was interested in playing with him a minute back, came there to see Khushi behaving rudely and Arnav laughing at the boy on listening to Khushi's words.

Didi...” Ruhan ran to his sister, who was just a couple of years elder to him. “Didi, they are saying that I can't ride cycle without anyone's help.”

Arnav and Khushi watched the angry demeanor of Rishika, but they weren’t fearful. Pretty soon, all the kids started quarrelling and it ended up with a challenge from Ruhan's sister.

“You are talking like you are a champion. Then, we will have a cycle race and see who wins. Will it be my brother or you?”

It was a second mistake from Ruhan's side. First being, hurting Arnav and now, challenging Khushi. Revenge and Challenge made a deadly combo for the super-girl Khushi as she was already in for the wicked delight! In fact, for her, beating the nasty kid in a cycle race was much better than mentally beating him with the cycle!

“On your marks! Get set…… GO!!”

On hearing the announcement, Ruhan and Khushi both started but as Khushi mentioned to Arnav, Ruhan struggled in the beginning; while his sister came to his rescue, Arnav was busy cheering for Khushi who went past one of the turnings on the play ground they were racing on.

Even though Ruhan started late, he raced up to Khushi and she being the super-girl in her world, tried a stunt of removing her hands from handles. Ruhan mimicked her and removed his hands from handles as well to show her how he was more stylish and even braver than Khushi. The next second he lost balance off the cycle but was able to save himself from falling. However, while trying to save himself, he unintentionally rode towards Khushi’s path and held onto her for support which made her surprised, and she lost her own balance.

Amma...”

Khushi screamed in pain as she fell on the ground, while Arnav ran towards her and urgently helped her in getting up from the ground. Ruhan was about to apologize when his sister mocked that losers like Khushi can't ride a cycle without even falling.

Khushi’s face turned black with fury as she heard those words, and stood up to continue the race. This time, she ensured to be ahead of Ruhan and took very less time to catch up to his speed. Her friend stood amazed ather will power to win the competition, and finally jumped in delight as Khushi managed to reach at the finish point before Ruhan.

“Now you know that you can’t beat Khushi in anything, right?”

Arnav screamed at the dejected siblings and warned them to never mess with him or Khushi ever again. And that was obviously after the race concluded with his best friend emerging as the winner despite of getting bruised on her knee.

“Are you ok?” Arnav was too concerned for her as she winced in pain.

Uff Arnav, don’t be upset like girls! See, I’m alright!” Khushi flashed a bright smile at him.

“You should apply turmeric at your wound. Mom says that turmeric is good for quickly healing such wounds.”

“I will do it. But…”

“I know you’ll forget!” Arnav interrupted adamantly, knowing very well how his friend was a careless munchkin and was in fact not even bothered about her wound. “I will tell Garima Aunty to make turmeric paste for your…”

“But Amma will first scold me if she sees my wound…” Khushi murmured timidly under her breathe, and it didn’t go unheard by him.

“Fine, I will tell Payal jiji to do it for you.”

Arnav agreed, helping her as she still stumbled a little while walking, but the cheeriness and victorious smile on her face was still intact as she managed to avenge her best buddy’s little insult! And Arnav had to now agree for her to ride his bicycle as a reward for this deed.

“We have to do something now Garima. As soon as Arvind and Shashiji come, let’s ask them to do this. Otherwise, these two will go beyond our hands.”

Garima listened to an equally worried Ratna, and could completely understand her dilemma as she too was having the same thoughts in her mind. Their kids had been creating nuisance not only in homes, but also in the entire society. Both ladies were genuinely apologetic when Ruhan & Rishika’s mother complained to them about what Arnav and Khushi did in the garden, but at the same time, they were too furious at their own kids for being so rude.

“I don’t understand why Khushi is always doing the opposite of whatever I say.”

“And I have told Arnav numerous times not to fight with Ruhan or with any other kid. But he just doesn’t want to obey me!”

Ratna furiously added on to Garima’s words, when they decided that they would never reach to any conclusion if they only kept on worrying. It was high time for them to realize that the situation was gradually going out of their control and for the betterment of kids they had to make certain changes.
