Based on what I read about the flashback scene, I feel it's open to lot of interpretations.. River is dynamic unlike the ocean which is stagnant, lifeless almost placid.. if we look at the symbolism in terms of how the characterization is, river could be Rudra and Maya could be the ocean.. Rudra is dynamic, he is vibrant and symbolizes life like the river does..Maya is like the ocean, placid and cold on the outside and so much hidden in the depth..Rudra loves the ocean eventhough he doesn't know how to swim..he has no idea what destruction lies underneath the placid exterior..and Maya?? she appreciates the journey of the river, it's x-factor..In her story, the journey of the river and its end destination is fixed.. river has to merge into the ocean and lose its identity.. however, the twist she's not ready for is the stone that could change the course of the river or break in the process.. this stone analogy gives a different interpretation to the river and ocean story.. Ocean being Maya's ultimate destination, moksha/salvation, penance, peace in death, it could be anything but she is not looking for a happily ever after.. The journey of her revenge represented by the river here is going to end after the river destroys everything on its way before it merges into the ocean.. the unexpected change of course could come in the form of the the rock, the hurdle in her way i.e Rudra who is either going to change her course of journey or break into pieces in the process.. Whatever the case maybe, Rudra is going to make Maya see the error of her ways ..only he can..and once she does, she will not be able to live with the burden of guilt..
I feel after maya's death, rudra is going to publish her book..her story
Yes, the sea and river symbolism is open to many interpretations, one of it you just gave.
Honestly, in S1 Maya was always seeking a happy ending to her story, which she found in Arjun, and in trying to keep that, she turned darker and darker.
But in S2, she has started off as a dark character with hate and vengeance which ends with her end. She is not seeking a happy ending. But isn't that what she deserves? Marrying Rudra for her is the 1st step to her revenge, but actually it is her first step towards healing, towards the light, towards lost love, lost humanity, lost innocence. 10 years ago Mrityunjay pushed Maya down a pit of darkness. But now 10 years later, Rudra has to walk her back towards the light, stripping her of the darkness. I mean 7 people for their selfish reasons ruined a woman, and nothing has affected their lives, they have just moved on. Mrityunjay Roy has moved on. And that isn't fair. They deserve to die, not Maya.
I mean show can be dark. But you cannot show darkness moving towards more darkness. Then what do we have in life? Given that the show is immensely in the dark, from immense darkness only light can come, not more darkness - light which led to the creation. But she chose to kill in the name of dharma for Roy clan's karma, which has put a huge dent on Maya's way to light.
And hence I am really hoping Rishi to return from the dead- because his death had so many loopholes, that I am having a hard time believing his death. It's not delusion frankly. And as Maya comes out of her shadows and moves towards the light, she will be exposed to the toxicity inside that house, the murkiness that is Roy clan, and that is what will show her that she is not the only victim, everyone is. When Gauri became Kali, she used ferocity to vanquish the darkness, to kill negativity, not lose herself in the darkness. But after consuming Raktabeej's blood, some of his negativity came into her as she was the force of raw nature and hence she went berserk, then Shiv had to remind her of who she truly is, and then she returned to her sublime Gauri form, which is exactly what should happen with Maya.
I don't want cliffhanger ending, neither I am looking forward to Maya's death which is so spoken of. Something else, something different and something to look forward to. Honestly, CVs are getting very predictable these days. They should actually surprise us.
