Chapter 6
_*_*_*_*_*_*_
"Aaya kya?" Sonakshi asked through the receiver, as her eyes drooped. It was six in the evening but Rohit was still nowhere to be found. She had tried catching up with him after what happened in the dhaba but he had already left by then. Sonakshi had easily left him over a hundred voice mails by now, all of them saying only one thing I'm sorry... Come back Rohit so we can talk about this...But Sonakshi hadn't the slightest idea if he had even got these messages.
"No bhabi... He hasn't come to the hotel so far. Jaise hi aaye, I'll call you." Ajit said on the other end.
"Aap ab kahan hai?"
"Hotel main. Aur kahan?" Sonakshi said as she fastened her pace in a narrow gulli. She had lost count of the number of streets she'd been to, the number of bars she'd peeped through... The number of times she had wished that he had never left the dhaba.
Sonakshi was so disturbed with what had happened thay she thought it better to stay in a hotel for the time being. She herself didn't know why she had done this. There was nothing between her and Raj. She didn't have to prove this to anyone... Did she?
"Kis hotel main ho?" Ajit asked sharply. Had he caught onto her lie?
"Sheraton." Sona blurted out and she wasn't lying when she said that, she had moved her stuff into the hotel before she decided to search for Rohit herself but the last time she had been in the hotel was about six hours ago.
"What a coincidence bhabi hum ek hi hotel main hain! Room number kya hai? We'll come there right away. " Pooja said, trying to hide her worry and frustration.
"Pooja, Ajit..." Is all Sonakshi could manage when she was caught.
"Pata tha mujhe! You and Rohit na you're both the same. Logically sochna impossible hai kya? You're in Pune bhabi! It's a big city. You can't just find Rohit by roaming from street to street."
"Please tell me you're not roaming from street to street..." Pooja pleaded after a pause.
"No no... Pooja logically soch rahin hun main don't worry. I'm not roaming from street to street." Sonakshi lied again. Although she had thought out a logical plan, it required time, time she couldn't afford to waste.
"Accha Pooji, I'm getting a call now, I'll talk to you later." Sonakshi said.
"Bhabi! You better be here by nine!" Ajit demanded.
"Okay fine. I'll see." Sonakshi said offhandedly as she disconnected the call to pick another one.
"Hello mumma?" She asked as she picked up the call.
"Sonakshi I did what you asked.. commissioner uncle se baath ki maine. He has some contacts in Pune. They're willing to track Rohit's phone for you...Tracking signal bhej diye hain. I'll forward it to you." Said the unmistakable voice of Veena Sippy on the phone.
"Thank you mumma! I'll call you as soon as I find him." Sonakshi said, excited with the new piece of information.
"Wait Sonakshi... I know you're in a hurry but there's something important that I have to tell you... Something I should have told you a long time back..." Sonakshi listened carefully, dreading what she might hear, but what she heard surprised her.
"I'm sorry Sonakshi... I'm apologizing on behalf of every Sippy. We have hurt you so much, much more than what normal people can tolerate. You have been so good to us! So good to me and so good to Rohit... Tumhe dekhna tha... He was like a living corpse Sonakshi! There were some nights that he never ate, never slept! Some nights he just went off somewhere... God knows where... And the next morning he'd come beaten up, his clothes torn..."
Sonakshi listened patiently as Veena spoke. She didn't realize that a tear had escaped her eye. The air around her had suddenly gotten chilly. She could here the thunder occasionally. A storm is coming, she thought.
"Main batha nahi sakthi how glad I was when he told me that he was going to Pune to get you back. What happened with you was very wrong Sonakshi... It shouldn't have happened with anyone and I am very sorry about it. I just hope for the both of you that you can forgive my son." She said, meaning every word of what she had said.
Something clicked inside of Sonakshi as she heard these words. She realized how neither of them had been able to live without the other and suddenly, In spite of the bleak circumstances that surrounded her, she smiled.
"Thank you maa... I can't tell you how much you have helped me. I'll call you once I've found Rohit." Sonakshi said as she disconnected.
Sonakshi waited impatiently for the tracking signal to arrive. Time was moving very slowly for her but she didn't have to wait for too long as the signal arrived soon enough. When she saw the GPS ping, she was surprised. I'm such a fool she thought to herself as she began to run, hoping to see an auto or a taxi on the road.
The weather was taking a turn for the worse. Lightning danced in the night sky to the thunder beats. The rain started off gently enough, but Sonakshi was doubtful for how long it would stay that way. People were already starting to move towards buildings with a roof but Sonakshi was running sone where far from it...
Minutes seemed like hours. Why didn't she think to look for Rohit in the park? She cursed herself repeatedly for this.
"Taxi!" She called out as a lone vehicle came her way. Hesitantly the driver stopped and upon hearing the address, agreed to take her if she paid him double. She didn't need to be told twice. She jumped into the car at once.
"Jaldi chalaiye please..." She requested as she watched the trees and building pass behind her in a haze. What if Rohit's not in the park anymore? She thought and checked the GPS ping again. She was surprised to see the signal intact considering that she was right about the weather, Almost out of nowhere the rain had started pouring down with a rage. Not a single person was out on the streets of Pune but I hope Rohit teek ho is all she could think at that time.
"Madame yahi rukh lun?" The driver asked when the park was a few metres away.
"Haan bhaiya, shukriya." She mumbled as she paid him the money and got out in a hurry.
It didn't take her long to find Rohit. He was right there. Standing in front of the gate drenched from head to toe, looking at her like he was expecting her to be there.
"What the hell Rohit!" was all she could say as she saw him that way. Had he gone mad? It was a bad storm, one which was only going to get worse with time, even little children knew that they had to stay indoors during a storm.
When he didn't respond, she walked right up to him and without a warning and held his shirt tightly.
"What were you thinking! Tumhe kuch ho jaata tho...!"
"You have no idea how worried everyone are!" She said as she shook the tall man in front of her. Even he seemed suprised to see the strength the little lady possessed.
"You drive me crazy, you know that!" She screamed as she looked into his eyes.
Rohit
Rohit couldn't help but stare at the ethereal beauty in front of him. He could hear her shout and scream, he even felt her tug at his shirt but his attention was only on her eyes.
"Come on say something damn it!" She shouted again and this time she got through to him. He blinked at what she'd said, as if he had just woken up from a trance. The park was deserted, they were the only two souls in the entire area.
Rohit clutched Sonakshi's hand as he continued to gaze into her eyes.
"Stop it! Don't give me your gyaan! Not now. Not when you're dripping wet as well." He said as he tightened his grip around her hand.
"Kyun aayi ho? I told you that I'd leave you alone." He continued.
"It's not your decision alone Rohit! You can't just decide that on your own!" She screamed again.
"The last time I checked, you didn't want me anywhere near you." He said as he clenched the fist of his free hand.
"I was angry Rohit! I'm sorry for saying thise things... I didn't mean them. Not a single one of those horrible things." She pleaded as she felt her face burn in the tracks the rain and tears were mixing on.
"But you were right Sona... I haven't done anything but cause you pain..." He said as he let go of her arm. She longed for his touch, almost immediately she reached back for his hand.
"No Rohit... Aisa bilkul nahi hain... Maine jo kaha uske liye I'm sorry... Please maaf kardo mujhe..." Around them, the rain only intensified. The atmosphere around them was electric, quite literally.
"Why did you come for me?" He asked sadly, as he withdrew his hand from hers again.
"You know why Rohit..."
"Damn it Sona just answer the question! I hate it when you this." He raged.
"Because I love you! I love you and that's it Rohit... Sach main... I don't know how it happened but I'm glad it did. I'm glad that I have you in my life! I've been as helpless these past few days as you have... You know main itni shameless hun ki I expected you to call me every night at eleven. Can you believe it Rohit? Kaun aisi aurat hogi who wants her husband to get drunk and call her?" She exclaimed as she pulled her hair, which was tied in a ponytail.
"You know Sona... I was going to drink again today... And then I remembered how sad you got when you found out that I had been drinking again... And at once I decided not to go. You don't know it but you're the only one who can make me do something I don't want to in my life... Main kisi ka nahi sunta but you... I'd do anything for you." He said as he took a step backward.
"Rohit kya kar rahe ho... Come to me please..." She pleaded as she extended her hand. She felt the wind cut through her skin but it didn't matter to her... Nothing mattered to her except for him.
"You're right Sona... We can't stay away from each other, but I've only hurt everyone who's ever been close to me... You don't deserve this. Please Sona don't make it harder than it is for me..." Rohit begged but what Rohit was saying with his words and what he was saying with his eyes were two very different things and no one understood this better than Sonakshi.
"No Rohit aisa nahi hain... Please don't do this to me Rohit... You have no idea how much I need you. Please don't go away. I can't live without you..." She sobbed. The rain water mixed with tears tasted weird in her mouth. A thousand thouughts rushed into her head all at once, none of them doing any good.
"Yaad hain? We talked about having a baby before all of this! Uska kya?" She screamed when she realized that she alone wasn't getting through to him.
"Please Sonakshi... Don't do this to me. Please leave... The storm is getting worse." He said as his heart skipped a beat. All of a sudden he felt as through he had been shot through the heart. Above them, the sky roared with thunder.
"I did this mistake once Rohit... I left when both of us were vulnerable, I won't do it again." She said as she moved forward and caught his arm again.
"Sonakshi please..."
"Do you really want me to go? You want me to go back to that house... with Raj?" She added hesitantly, not sure if it was a good move. Rohit didn't respond and she got her answer.
"Tell me Rohit, tell me that you're okay seeing me with Raj. Tell me that it doesn't bother you... Tell me that you don't care." She said, trying to incite him but for some reason, Rohit was as calm as the sky was before the storm had wreacked havoc. She could see his jaw tighten but apart from this, he did nothing. When this too didn't work Sonakshi moved dangerously close to Rohit... And without a warning, she held him by his collar and pulled him down towards her face. She shut her eyes tight and slammed her lips into his. Rohit had hardly any time to react and before he knew it, her tongue pushed past his lips and dove into his mouth. Her hands reached out and tangled around his wet hair causing him to yelp. He had never seen this side of Sonakshi... He had never known that she could even do such wonderful things to him. They had kissed quite a bit when they were together but he had always been the one who was in control. She had never been so open... So impatient before.
"Sona...Yeh kya k..." He gasped for air.
"Shut up Rohit! Just shut up and kiss me." She mumbled as she went back to what she was doing a second ago. Rohit was stunned to see this from Sonakshi. He felt a rush of adrenaline through his body. Unexpectedly, his hands pulled at her hips and drew her closer, their chests pressing together.
"Damn it Sona... Stop this. Please... You have no idea whay you're doing to me... I won't be able to stop..." He begged as he pulled away for a sharp intake of air, but his protests were only met by a more passionate kiss. It was wet, because of all the rain. This time, she showed no mercy whatsoever. Rohit's entire body was on fire, he was addicted.
"Don't tell me that I didn't warn you" he mumbled as he slid his hands upwards, from her hips onto her back, he yanked her further into him, if such a thing was even physically possible, and covered her mouth with his in a hungry kiss.
Caught by surprise, she let out a small gasp, and this was enough for his tongue to gain entrance but she too wasn't going to give up that easily. Their tongues danced together, each one better than the other. His fingers gently slipped back doen her wet back but what surprised her even more was when she felt his touch on her bare skin. Somehow he had managed to slide his hands from underneath her t shirt, up to to her back. His fingers gently ran up and down her spine, making her shiver with delight. The heat seemed to travel through her nerves, spreading the warmth throughout her body.
Just when Rohit was getting into it and winning over the control, Sonakshi drew away, a smirk spreading across her face.
"Don't think you can get away with this..." He said in a husky voice as he tried pulling her back, with a vigour this time.
"Rohit stop! We're in a park. Baarish ho rahi hain... We can't continue like this." She reasoned as she pushed him away.
"Accha you didn't seem to have a problem when you were in control." Rohit said, almost angry with her for pulling away from him.
"Stop it Rohit. This isn't the time for you to be a child." She complained as she started walking away.
"Kahan ja rahi ho?" He asked from behind, impatient and confused.
"Hotel. Room toh tumne already book kar liya hain na?" She asked mischievously. Rohit couldn't believe what he'd just heard. He stood stunned for a minute and when she didn't hear anything from Rohit, Sonakshi continued as she walked away, her back turned towards him.
"Accha tum mat aana. Just give me the details. Main akele hi chali jaungi..." She said cheekily when she felt a hand on her neck. Sonakshi froze in her tracks, she had absolutely no idea how he had sneaked up on her. Sonakshi shivered under his influence.
"Tum iske liye bahut pachtaogi..." Rohit seductively whispered into her ear as he held her hand and started walking out of the park, holding her hand tightly. Suddenly, she could sense something different in Rohit, a certain aura that hadn't been there before- it was a passion, a fury she had never seen before.
