The rain fell hard, making thousands of different noises. She slowly stuck her hand out of the window, feeling the water drops hitting her palm and splashing elsewhere suddenly she frowned, only if HE wasn’t home, she would’ve been able to go outside into the rain.
“Kalyani”
She heard him say, quickly she pulled her hand back in, wiping it against her clothes.
“Kya kar rahi ho”, he asked
“Voh uh, han mai dekh rahi thi ki if hai, yah windows dusty hai”.
she lied and pulled off a fake smile.
“Acha Jee?” He said as he sat on the bed going through his files.
“Voh, Malhar ji, mai Kya sochrahi thi ki, mai bahar ja...”
“Nai” he replied, not even letting her finish her sentence.
She made a face and sat beside him.
“Aap, mujhe kuch bhi nhi kar daata, mai ice cream ka liya puch thi hu, you say “No Kalyani, tum pehmar ho jaogi”, mai, chocolate ke liye puch thi hu, tab aap keg tha hai ki,” No Kalyani not to much sweets are good for you or the baby”.
She complained folding her arms. He smiled at her childish behaviour, placing his files down.
“Hey, yaha ow- (here)”.
He held her hand and caressed it slowly with his thumb.
“Tumhe pata hai nah, Kai mai tumhe certain things Kai ku mana kar tha hu?”
“Certain things? Aap sab kuch maana kar daata hai.”
He rolled his eyes.
“Acha, lehkin tumhe pata hai na”.
she shook her head.
“Kyu” she asked.
Malhar smiled wider
“Kyu ki mujhe, choti Kalyani, sab sai healthiest baby chi (need) yahi hai”.
Now she smiled
“Koun kehta hai, Kay baby larka hoga”. He shook his head.
“Nahi, Kalyani tum galat ho, larki hogi aur aapni baba ki tarha”.
“Nahi, mujhe ek aur Malhar Ji nahi chi (need) yahi hai”.
He raised his eyebrow.
“Kya matlab, Malhar Ji”
She smiled , then tapped his cheek.
“Hmm, Kalyani mai aapna mind change kar raha tha but ab tum mujhe Malhar ji ka matlab nhi bata raha, tho.”
Kalyani’s jaw dropped
“Kya, stop lying c’mon, Malhar ji”.
she whined as she folded her arms again.
He smiled ear to ear.
“Acha, 20 minutes Kai laya”.
As he said, she jumped up like a child.
“Really, chaalay?”

And soon they reached outside of their house, Malhar leaned back on the door and watched her.
Soon she was wet head to toe.
She slowly turned to Malhar and signaled him to come. He looked around and hesitated for a moment, but seeing that smile on her face, he couldn’t resist and he joined her.
She held his hands and came closer to him.
“ I love you, ACP Saab” she whispered.
“ I love you too, Mrs Rane”. He replied.
And slowly pulled her into a soft yet passionate kiss. And she pulled out of the kiss saying “ACP Junior also loves you”. She said.
He made a face. “It’s not ACP Junior, it’s choir Kalyani”, he said.
“ACP Junior”
“Choti Kalyani”
“Nahi Malhar ji, ACP junior”.
And that is how ACP Saab and Mrs Rane stood there in the middle of the garden drenched, fighting over their baby’s gender/ name.
