Chapter 4 mini update
Khushi saw Aman stood by his black merc outside the mandir the next morning like he was waiting for her and he was. He had a message for Khushi.
Before jumping straight to that thought Aman wanted to ask how Khushi was she smiled she was fine, he then ruffled the ears of the goat a little.
“Yey aapki khaas dost hai?” (Is she your best friend?)
Khushi smiled and said yes.
Amans eyes sparkled with a smile.
Now you have another if you like he said referring to himself.
Khushi liked that.
Arnav has a message for you he said digging into his trouser pocket for his phone.
He seemed to dial a number and then hand it over to her.
“Hi - a distinctively confident personality spoke over the phone. This was the first time Khushi was hearing her husband to be’s voice so closely.
“Bas yehi kehna tha ke I got your list, (I just wanted to say I got your list)
“I agree with all of it, agar phir bhi tum is rishte se khush nahin ho you can change your mind”. (I’d you’re still unhappy with this alliance you can say no)
And pareshan hone ki koi zarurat nahin hai tumhari buaji se ijaazat le kar ke baat kar raha hoon. ( also I asked your aunt for permission before speaking to you so you have nothing to worry about)
When he didn’t hear a response he took it to be just her hesitance and asked her to hand the phone back to Aman.
“Aman ko phone do please” she handed it over and saw Aman say a few words in English and then put the phone down.
“Okay?” Amans eyes asked with wonder at what was going on in Khushis mind,
“Yes she nodded however confessed she didn’t understand some of the English being spoken by Arnav on the phone.
“Koi baat nahin” (That doesn’t matter) said Aman with a light grin.
Sitting down on the ledge outside the temple with the goat Aman sat down alongside her for a couple of mins.
“Buaji will be happy”
And you? Asked Aman curiously.
Mein toh khush hein hoon - as long as I can make jalebis she alluded to in her own way of articulate words.
Happy go lucky that is how Khushi had lived up until now, all the things her bua was telling her this evening, what to do not what to do ..she didn’t worry about at all, she had watched her mother be a wonderful mother and wife and every time she got stuck she was just going to think of her. Off she went to make her jalebis in the kitchen with not a care in the world. She did however find that the paper she was put her fried jalebis into had a picture of her husband to be printed on it. That meant he was very rich and powerful man indeed but maybe it also meant that she was about to add sweetness to his life.
..
The run up to marriage was pretty much the same distant and any conversation went through Aman or Buaji even now as Arnav and Khushi stood outside Raizada house Khushi wished to speak via Aman stood next to her.
..
“Aman”
“Hmm”
“I’ve lost Laxmiji she whispered as she entered the house, right foot first.”
