BJP lost out on arithmetic

Not sure how Maharashtra rejected BJP and Fadnavis by giving highest seats at 105

India does not need metro. It is a white elephant. What Mumbai needs is more railway lines, more coaches per local train, BRTS and Water ways. Metro is nothing but fleecing common traveler in Mumbai of his/her hard earned money. Common traveler cannot afford Metro tickets, only a few lakh privileged people can, but the resources that Metro eats up are humongous when compared to railway, public bus and waterways which is having an adverse effect on the entire city. No wonder Ashok Khemka, who was praised by BJP before but is now being transferred regularly by the same BJP , raised corruption issues about Metro.

BJP has used media to it's advantage as no other party in the recent times, though other parties have also tried to used media to their advantage.

BJP did not lose out on arithmetic, it lost out on ethical behaviour. Sena had 18 MP's in NDA yet only one cabinet portfolio. It would not have been wrong if BJP had allowed Shivsena to have their own CM for 2.5 years. BJP lost because they practiced, I will have not only what is mine, but I will also have what is yours and everybody else's.

Metro project has not been put on hold but it should be. Hope Uddhav Thackeray sees Metro for what it really is.

When someone tries to do something progressive, the crabs (political parties and activists) will pull them down.

Believe it or not, in Guangzhou city of China, 13 metros were built in a time period of just around 15 years and it is a breeze to move from spot A to spot B in the city.

First Mumbai metro took us ages and they are trying to scuttle the second one even after spending huge amounts to reach this stage.

Metro is not a progressive step. It is a resource guzzling monster. . Geographically China is a vast country than India while population wise both on par. This is enough to show there is no comparison between India and China as far as transport is concerned.

Exactly! And we will keep slipping further back if that is what is good for India. In 60's India and China were at par in their infrastructure.

If Metro is not a progressive step, I wonder why the Versova Andheri Ghatkopar Metro1 has so many commuters (who were earlier fleeced by the polluting rikshas from Ghatkopar and Andheri station) and are increasing daily? It has the eighth highest passenger density of any metro line in the world as per Wiki. So much for calling it elitist.

Talking about increasing frequency/coaches of suburban trains, there is something called as saturation level beyond which this cannot be pushed without affecting safety.

In infrastructure one good thing to learn and appreciate about China is that even at the Sino Indian borders they have constructed excellent black top class 9 roads right till their forward most bunkers . This has enhanced and effected their logistical supply chain management manifold .. The Chinese are fast and very proactive when it comes to development of infra . I read it some where on the quora that the Chinese tend to overdo the level of proficiency and quantum in building of infrastructure...

There is a direct connection between population density (which depends on geographical area and number of people) and modes of transport, especially public transport.

Mumbai local trains move nearly 80 lakh people everyday, BEST buses almost 30 lakh people everyday. So Locals and BEST move more than a crore people in Mumbai daily from one end of the city to other end, that too at a relatively cheap price affordable to common people of Mumbai .

'So many people' moved by the Metro at the most are 5-6 lakh in numbers at a steep price that many Mumbaikars cannot afford.

The resources that are guzzled by metro to move these 4-5 lakh well-to-do passengers are quite draining and unfair to other common people of Mumbai.

To lay one km of metro line almost 200-300 crores is required .

To lay one km of railway track 10-15 crores are required

To lay one km of BRTS only 10 crore is required.

So at the cost of one km of Metro line more than 12 kms of railway and 20 kms of BRTS can be laid which will move much more people than metro. This will also improve the quality of public transport which we are in desperate need of. And if we add waterways to it we will have a fantastic public transport system.

There might be a saturation point but it has being reached neither in Mumbai nor in India. Most of Mumbai local train rakes are 12 coaches which will be made into 15 coach rakes . In India at the moment there are trains running more than 20 coaches rake(27 coach is the maximum).

Metro , bullet train are elitist in nature, India does not need them.

Indian politicians are taking India's public transport system down the same path which they took Air India , that of destruction. They want to destroy Indian railways and various Public transport systems and hand them over to private players.

Not really.

I don't think SS was wrong in what they were demanding, though it was a stretching it a bit. For they did accept one cabinet berth though they should have gotten more at the centre. They also accepted less number of seats in the seat sharing arrangement in Maha. So it was time for BJP to reciprocate with a nice gesture but they failed. I don't blame SS or UT.
