Indians are about colorism, not racism. Take a look at matrimonials. A huge percentage will specify fairness as a must. It goes for the women, too.

Mindy Kaling (I haven't seen her show) is talking about her personal experience therefore she is 100% right.

In my experience, in the UK, I have also noticed that dark-skinned South Asian women are generally shunned by their male counterparts. And most of the ones you see with White men are dark - partly because White men find darker skin attractive, whereas the Asian mentality is generally "fairer the better". SO I totally get where she's coming from.

Most ancient texts, written way before colonial times, are full of praises for fair women (and men). Yes, there are exceptions here and there, but mostly the writing errs on the fair side. Everything wrong in society cannot be blamed on the foreign hand.

Draupadi is said to be dark skinned..even Sita..Many of the beauties in our ancient tales r described as dark skinned. Even Lord Krishna

And btw Mindy would still be considered unattractive even if she was as white as snow. Her features are the problem, not her colour.
