I wish I could like this more than once lol. Once the shock of the drama ended for me, that's what I thought too, lol. What Sana wanted wasn't bad in itself.
There is a common theme with the way the men in these dramas "love". I almost stopped watching this one, because the relationship between Danish and Mehwish made me kind of uncomfortable. There's something oppressive in the way he loves her and I didn't enjoy some of his dialogues to that effect. Ignoring the fact that Mehwish is a completely awful person, Danish doesn't trust her either and he's made her the beginning and end of his world. Surely a healthy relationship involves trust between each other and healthy communication and wanting to support each other. This is so one-sided. And it's a common theme. I love you, and I am going to shove this love at you even though you want a little space from me.
In ZYK, Sana's boyfriend got 'punished' but there was this sympathetic undercurrent to it that they didn't give Sana. The only good and pure thing in that drama was the relationship between Yumna and her dad.
I absolutely get what you're saying. Danish does come across oppressive, he seems to believe that if Mehwish can't be happy living a frugal life she doesn't appreciate his love. And he keeps using this as a weapon to silence her when she expresses her desire for a wealthier life, which isn't fair at all.
In the first few episodes, it seemed like before marrying Mehwish he promised he'd give her everything she ever wanted. Now he's stuck in a dead-end job and she's clearly dissatisfied with the life he's providing. Before meeting Shahwaar she says she wants to work so they can send Rumi to school and Danish stops her.
Despite knowing that Mehwish wants a better lifestyle, Danish isn't seen doning anything to find better work. I don't think they ever indicate Danish has tried looking for better work to give his wife and child a better life, and yet he claims to love her so much and keeps saying he can do anything for her.
Danish's mantra seems to be I either stick to this job and my love makes up for our financial situation, or you force me to disrespect my dead dad's memory and take rishwat. It's emotionally manipulative because either way, Mehwish is the bad guy. She's either an ungrateful wife for not appreciating her husband's love and making do with a poor lifestyle, or she's a greedy, pushy woman who is forcing her husband to disrespect his father's memory and partake in illegal work.
Danish isn't brought to account at all for not taking his role as the 'breadwinner' seriously, and looking for other legal and better-paid work. He's the one who says we either make-do with our finances as they are or I take on illegal work, not Mehwish. So as far as work and money are concerned he's the one in the wrong, not Mehwish.
Mehwish is no angel, but I think she's a product of her environment. Danish does have a hand in the bad choices she's now making. That doesn't excuse her infidelity, but her infidelity doesn't excuse Danish's lax attitude towards providing for his family either.
I also think it's interesting that people aren't calling Shawaar out. He's the real negative character here. He's a complete player, pulling Mehwish in is a game to him. He's going to use her and dump her.
