Hey cricketfan1,
Finished watching this drama and you were so true about his character. It was only for him that I kept watching as the rest of the characters didn't grab my interest as such. This guy had such a good role there - the perfect gentleman , a righteous man along with being so understanding and caring.
Usually I like Sana and Ahmad because they are easy on the eyes and can act too, however in this serial Hassam and Samiya, they lacked something, the writing might be sloppy but I wasn't really invested in them. Hassam was an impulsive, rich brat who thought everything should happen his way. I found him self centered. Especially when he decided to use his friend for his own purposes. Marriage and divorce, are they joke to him? Samiya, also I didn't like - first she seemed to be a weakly written character to me, second I found her expressions always the same throughout the episode - that bechari look. When she was living with Ali, a man who gave her so much respect and care, a man who was much better compared to her former husband, she never showed or expressed him the love he deserved and was so restrained.
Anyways, I enjoyed Gohar's performance here. I hope he does more serials where he's the central character in a good romance drama. Even a villain character would do, a kind of villain who has depth, as in you know where he is coming from, you hate him yet you keep going back because he has grabbed your interest.
Here in Ramz-e-Ishq, there's no chemistry, story is being dragged unnecessarily. Could have become watchable had they explored the relationship between Gohar and the main girl's character after marriage. However, they have brought another girl and but the looks of the promos, there are going to be more crying scenes, Fariya's character is about to start her drama soon too. Most probably skip this one.
